Welcome!

Hello, Goldenburg111, and welcome to English Wikiquote.

Enjoy! ~ DanielTom (talk) 23:14, 18 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mahinda Rajapaksa

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Mahinda Rajapaksa, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but it may not satisfy Wikiquote's criteria for inclusion, for the reasons given in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikiquote is not" and Wikiquote's deletion policy).

You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Votes for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. ~ Ningauble (talk) 12:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Response

What about the protection to all the articles...? What that sockpuppet basically does is he follows certain users and vandalizes all their contributions. He's been doing this for over 10 years now (on all wiki sister projects) from what I can recount. I recommend that all the articles I forwarded to the admins here be protected or at least, semi-protected to ensure that no vandalism comes to them at a repeated basis. This is the reason why I wanted to obtain admin-ship myself, in order to avoid idiotic vandalism of this caliber. I suggest a checkuser be made against all the accounts that have participated in vandalizing my talk page and these specific articles. - Zarbon (talk) 20:03, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Additionally, please forward this information to protect or semi-protect the following articles as they are being met with vandalism once again:

I would suggest heavy protection. I reverted them to before the vandalism began, but I would highly recommend that they be protected from all new users as most of the vandalism is being done by the same sockpuppets from prior. Reverting the edits only triggers more activity from this sockpuppeteer. I would suggest a checkuser again for all the most recent accounts that have vandalised these articles and my talk page as they are all likely one and the same. Please notify me when the protection has been made. Thanks in advance. Some of the most recent sockpuppets of this user are possibly the following: 166.147.118.168, YODO (You Only Die Once), and Malarka. This along with a few hundred other accounts that have been blocked in the past.

Note: this is why I would make for a better administrator as opposed to a user, due to the fact that I would systematically keep track of vandalism. The recent upsurge of vandals here is being neglected and this is quite the problem. - Zarbon (talk) 20:03, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have less than 50 edits and I am an administrator, yeah! ;) I am not an admin here, yw, thanks for the info. --Goldenburg111 (talk) 20:14, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mahinda Rajapaksa

Hi Golden, thanks for creating this page. I added a few quotes, but you can still edit them, and change their presentation if you like. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions about WQ. Cheers, DanielTom (talk) 18:14, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help Daniel. --~~Goldenburg111 18:15, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sure, go ahead! --~~Goldenburg111 20:56, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

In the case of Chandrika Kumaratunga‎, her page on Wikipedia currently does not link to your newly-created Wikiquote article. As you have just created it, you can go to their "External links" section, and simply add {{wikiquote}}, which will help give more visibility to your article. (I'd do it myself, but I am also blocked there. :D) DanielTom (talk) 19:11, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I added the wikiquote template, thanks! And why are you blocked their? I have many other friends block their, but not me! --~~Goldenburg111 19:19, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I saw it. As for being blocked, long story, but the key is, you should behave nicely and try not to get blocked yourself. It's more fun being free. ;-) DanielTom (talk) 19:22, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
I should watch my temper :) --~~Goldenburg111 19:24, 12 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Have you tried...

GoogleBooks? It's a very good source for quotes. For example, if you find a quote you like on GoodReads, or somewhere else, you can look it up on GoogleBooks and see if it has been quoted in a book, and then you can cite it. As a rule, if you can't find a quote there, then it is not notable enough to be included on Wikiquote (but there are exceptions). Cheers, DanielTom (talk) 21:52, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

ok. --~~Goldenburg111 22:10, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Research

Thank you for your participation at Wikiquote:Requests for adminship/Kalki (3rd request).

I saw you said you did your own research already, it's good for you to do your due diligence before commenting in these sorts of discussions, so I'm glad you did that.

For a brief history of the socking, see User:Kalki/Restrictions. Please see also: User:FloNight/Kalki, Wikiquote:Votes of confidence/Kalki, Restriction by community against Kalki due to socking, and English Wikipedia sock investigations case page.

Cheers,

-- Cirt (talk) 02:47, 18 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I far more than others will welcome "due diligence" — and hope not to bother you too much. I will post links to far more extensive expositions of the circumstances than those Cirt has thus far here provided on my nomination page, but some I have already gathered are these: User:Kalki/Outrages of October - November 2010, User:Kalki/2011 Contentions, and User:Kalki/FloNight Assessments & Responses‎‎. I am presently assessing other pertinent links to present elsewhere. Thank you for your considerations. ~ Kalki·· 04:29, 18 January 2014 (UTC) + tweakReply

Indonesia

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Indonesia, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. the link i added is just lyrics for further reading. Nothing spammy trust me.Mistasleek (talk) 22:06, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
I hope your telling the truth. I'll revert my edit and save it to your revision. --~~Goldenburg111 22:07, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
yes true. Thank you Golden.Mistasleek (talk) 22:11, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
You have already been reverted at Wikipedia, please stop adding spam to its sister projects. Wikia is not welcome in the external links section. Go publicize your page elsewhere. ~ DanielTom (talk) 22:13, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I didn't know it's not allowed. You got a link to where I can read it up in the rules? Mistasleek (talk) 22:37, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Replied at your talk page. The problem with wikia is that it is commercial/for-profit. (And, of course, if we allowed it on Wikiquote our articles would soon be filled with spammy links to the many pages created there, often completely unreliable, by kids who then think it's a good idea to promote them here.) General guidelines for what constitutes permissible external links can be found at WP:EL. ~ DanielTom (talk) 22:54, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
@DanielTom, just to clarify for the future. Was my reaction and response correct here? --~~Goldenburg111 22:57, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you have a kinder soul than me. But if you are unsure about an issue, you can always ask more experienced users, for example UDScott. I ask WQ admins lots of questions myself. ;-) ~ DanielTom (talk) 23:01, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again for your help, but I shouldn't trouble the admins here bombarding them with questions, they're is a lot of vandalism. As mentioned before, thanks for your help :) --~~Goldenburg111 23:05, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
(No problem. Sometimes I too worry that I'm abusing their patience, and making them mentally exhausted, but then I remember they are being paid for for a reason. Oh, wait...) DanielTom (talk) 23:09, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, and they get the extra buttons and "a little power" for a reason, hmmm..., I see now, man thanks! Oh, UDScott, I have been asking questions a lot to him. I think I should try Mdd or maybe User:Ningauble. --~~Goldenburg111 23:11, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
There is another user, BD2412, whom you should try to distract. He may seem a bit too intimidating at first, but I believe you will find he is also quite helpful, though I admit he has blocked me before (twice). He has many edits on Wikiquote, but tends to be much more busy at Wikipedia maintaining his place as a top editor there, so that makes pinging him here with questions all the more fun. ~ DanielTom (talk) 23:21, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Intimidating? Oh, I think I'm just direct. BD2412 T 18:58, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

re

You actually can't delete accounts, and you are spreading misinformation to someone who could be in a serious situation, so I think you should revert your posts there. ~ DanielTom (talk) 19:56, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

sure. --~~Goldenburg111 19:57, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Also your other post. You are right, this is a matter for admins, we can't really help him. ~ DanielTom (talk) 19:59, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Activity

My activity will be slowly be decreasing due to schoolwork and real life depression. I hope the cyber world will help me through depression. Yet, I will be creating at least one page a day. Thank you. --~~Goldenburg111 16:10, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Don't feel pressured to edit too much. I heard video games help with depression. Not sure if editing wikis does! I'm afraid we can't really help you with your afk problems, other than giving emotional support, but remember that if someone is mistreating you at school you really need to tell an adult figure (e.g., a teacher, or one of your parents) so they can help you. Whatever it is you're going through, chances are, things are going to get much better for you as time passes by. In any case, good luck with your schoolwork (it's important). Cheers, DanielTom (talk) 16:54, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
BTW, I noticed some of your edits on other wikis, and I must remind you that it's a very bad idea to give out your age publicly. I suggest that you read this page (if you haven't done so already). Please wait until you're much older before even considering posting personal information online (even for adults it's generally a bad idea). ~ DanielTom (talk) 23:58, 10 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Country pages

Thank you for you addition of several country pages. I have just one note: so far, I don't really see too many memorable or pithy quotes being placed on those pages (see Wikiquote:Quotability for some guidance on this). This may change in the future as more quotes are added, but just a note of caution that what is currently on pages such as Mongolia and Philippines reads more like recitations of fact or even encyclopedic information rather than quotable quotes - which don't really seem to warrant having a page for them. I would recommend trying to find something more memorable for such pages, rather than just quotes that happen to mention the country's name. I do think it is a good idea to have pages for these countries, but with better quotes (see the first few quotes on Spain as an example - they are much more than just bland statements from a government official who happened to be quoted in a news article (as on Mongolia). Thanks ~ UDScott (talk) 14:40, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I'll get to work on those pages. Thanks for the notice! --~~Goldenburg111 15:02, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
