IP address ban and Mass deletion of articles

edit

We hosted an event on the 25 June 2022 for for Art & feminism and we experienced an issue where there was a clash of IP address being the same and also having about 5 user accounts identified as sockpuppet for Leungo Mokgwathi who's work has been placed under mass deletion. So the following usernames were affected and all their articles are nominated for speedy deletion: Memory Macheza, Wathuto, Kutlomasa, Tntsholetsang, Ikobeng. So currently Leungo Mokgwathi cannot create any article too as all her work is placed under mass deletion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 18:10, 30 June 2022 (UTC) (talkcontribs) Kolobetsoo (UTC)Reply

Kolobetsoo, I am reverting the deletion tags that were placed on your articles now. Please continue creating articles as normal. Apologies for the inconvenience. --Ferien (talk) 16:49, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Successful RfA

edit

Congratulations on your successful RfA. I have updated your permissions accordingly. Best of luck and thank you for volunteering. GMGtalk 12:25, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I'll try to do my best. --Aphaia (talk) 14:03, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Congratulations! :) --Ferien (talk) 15:49, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Just a note regarding Kimsa Sok (2003). It's often helpful to check global contribs in these kinds of cases, where we find the account has already been locally blocked on two projects for spam, and also globally locked. Also the addition of the superfluous "2003" is a clue that they're trying to avoid the natural title, and when we go to the deleted contributions at Kimsa Sok, no surprise really that this has already been deleted twice under the natural title.
@Minorax: in particular is quite skilled in combating cross wiki abuse, and when they tag something it usually means there's something deeper that we're missing on our end. GMGtalk 12:29, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hello. This has been a chronic issue where the person behind the accounts have been going to at least 10 wikis to self-promote himself. See w:km:Kimsa Sok, w:km:Sok Kimsa, w:Kimsa Sok, w:Draft:Kimsa Sok for some examples. While I don't oppose the removal of the CSD tag in favour of the already running PROD, but I just see no point in wasting time for that. —This unsigned comment is by Minorax (talkcontribs) 23:16, 6 September 2021 (UTC).Reply
Hello there, thank you for sharing information. kmwiki wasn't in my scope, it's helpful indeed. Personally it's equal for me both prod and speedy, but oldbees here have tended to prefer prod, perhaps for seeking consensus. Here I'd like to give a weight of another admin discretion who could have speedy it by themselves but requested for prod instead. Thank you for your understanding. --Aphaia (talk) 05:43, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

LTA causing problems:

edit

Hello, I am here to inform you that Wikinger has revived an old account called Inevergiveup2 and is picking up where the others left off on, from their recent edits. Please intervene. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 15:44, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you @DarkMatterMan4500:, another admin dealt with them gratefully. Hope they don't come back. --Aphaia (talk) 09:26, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Can I suggest creating a filter against new users moving userpages? I can help you with that over a private connection if you want. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 15:55, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Good suggestion. I'm just wondered on our default setting ... IIRC some Wikimedia projects set auto-confirmed user only as default for moving, not only user pages. --Aphaia (talk) 15:34, 4 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
They can pretty quickly reach autoconfirmed status on smaller projects, for example by just performing other kinds of vandalism. I suggest implementing something similar to m:Special:AbuseFilter/161, though since Wikiquote doesn't have an autopatroller group (or even patroller for that matter), the corresponding condition would need to be replaced by something related to edit count and user age (though the latter would usually not be a problem for this particular vandal). 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 21:51, 4 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I got it on auto-confirmed status ... I'll give a look to the filter tomorrow (now it's over 2am!). Besides setting filter, what do you think about imprementing user groups like you mentioned on the above? I've also been qualified as rollbacker on ENWP and it helps sometimes ... from that experience, I love the idea to provide globally entrusted users with those types of flags, specially if they hesitate to receive admin mops here. --Aphaia (talk) 17:27, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Given that the rollback permission is only available to the sysop group, having a less advanced one with some permissions of this sort seems sensible. On Meta, we have a "patroller" user group with the autopatrol, patrol, rollback, and patrolmarks rights. That would require a Phabricator task in any case. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 18:35, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
For the time being, a filter restricting to, say, 20 edits might be helpful. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 16:27, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Can I have the link to all the articles that I have written so that I can add citations? Onyinyeonuoha (talk) 04:40, 12 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

According to the deletion log, these two articles:
03:07, 12 October 2021 Aphaia talk contribs block deleted page Deola Sagoe (Proposed deletion: No sourced quotes) (view/restore)
03:06, 12 October 2021 Aphaia talk contribs block deleted page Ola Brown (Proposed deletion: No sourced quotes) (view/restore)
Do you want me to undelete them?
-- Aphaia (talk) 12:11, 12 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Please, do not delect them, I will work on them Onyinyeonuoha (talk) 05:37, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Onyinyeonuoha: Done. Happy sourcing :) Sorry for my late reply, I've been caught by Chopin Competition for days. --Aphaia (talk) 05:04, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • @Onyinyeonuoha: If you look at your contribution page you will see an N in front of every new page you create, if it still exists. Otherwise you can see all the pages you had created by clicking on supercount at the bottom of your contribution page, then look for Pages created.

How we will see unregistered users

edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Help with a possible error I made

edit

Hi! I saw your contact info on a list of Wikiquote administrators. I may have committed a faux pas in moving an item from the sandbox to article space. I thought I was following procedure, but another user thinks otherwise (and voiced a strong opinion). How would I go about reversing whatever error I made? Or is this something you can take care of as an administrator for me? Apologies for inconvenience. Nolabob (talk) 22:59, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Inactivity leading to de-adminship

edit

Hello, Aphaia. You haven't edited or made a logged action here for two years. Are you still interested in doing admin work here? If not or if there's no response, I'll open up a discussion about removing the rights from you. Thanks for your work here either way. —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:51, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
