Mad as a Mars Hare

1963 film by Chuck Jones

Mad as a Mars Hare is a 1963 Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon directed by Chuck Jones and Maurice Noble. The short was released on October 19, 1963, and stars Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian. The cartoon's title is a play-on-words of the famous phrase to be "mad as a March hare", the origins of which are disputed. In the short, Bugs is sent to claim Mars in the name of the Earth.

Marvin the Martian edit

  • I'm not angry! Just terribly, terribly hurt!
  • Well. Back to the old electronic brain!

Bugs Bunny edit

  • [last lines, transformed into a giant Neanderthal rabbit] I'll tell ya this much: When I get back to Earth, old Elmer Fudd and the rest of those hunters are due for a big surprise!

Dialogue edit

Bugs Bunny: Why must you send a rabbit to do a man's job?
Commander: Because rabbits are expendable! That's why!
