Leucosticte, thank you for starting the page MediaWiki. Sorry that someone attempted to nominate it to get deleted right off the bat like that three days before it was created, neglecting even the WQ:PROD process. Without making a good faith, courtesy effort, to discuss with you, first. Oh well. :) I've gone ahead and added some sourced quotes and cleaned up the page. My decision to afford the community an opportunity to discuss the matter at Votes for deletion, rather than propose deleting the article without discussion, was not a negligent one. I thought discussion might be appropriate because my rationale for deletion was not based on an ironclad policy, but on general practices at Wikiquote for which exceptions have sometimes been made, e.g. in the Jimmy Wales article.

By following the policy that {{prod}} should not be used when the deletion might be debatable, I was extending the courtesy of offering to discuss the matter. By contrast, it was User:Cirt who removed the original quote from the article, prejudging discussion of the issue posed in the nomination for deletion. ~ Ningauble (talk) 17:28, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

I have no idea what you are going on about. It is neither required nor customary to hold preliminary discussions before nominating an article at VfD. It was, after all, a single quote. ~ Ningauble (talk) 18:02, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

I've been hanging out on meta and MediaWiki.org for so long that I forgot how annoying it was to deal with the xfd processes at Wikimedia's content wikis. Ha, I just noticed they still call it "votes" for deletion here! Leucosticte (talk) 16:35, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
