Lay out

Please keep this in mind. Don't make those changes again. Everybody has it's own style, and it's best to leave it with that. There is enough real work to be done. -- Mdd (talk) 21:34, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Ok, fair question. In that one edit the whole article is Wikified adding intro, link to Wikipedia, stub tag, external link section, categories, and formatting of source lines etc. In such a make-over the completely article is rearranged according to the preferences, which are the most common on Wikiquote.

As to that "real work" : There are over 100 thematic articles (see here), and over 500 autobiographical articles (see here) awaiting similar action. All the help we can get is really helpful. -- Mdd (talk) 11:40, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

It is common practice at Wikiquote to identify the year after the work, as illustrated at Wikiquote:Templates/Themes, rather than after the author, as is common in some footnote oriented citation styles. Many newcomers do not notice this, and it is no great crime to use other citation formats; but Aphorist is to be commended for observing and following Wikiquote style. This kind of minor adjustment improves the consistency of Wikiquote's pages. ~ Ningauble (talk) 13:06, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

I must admit that after ten years I keep having second thoughts. My own preferences change over time, and I might have enforced an own style over the years. Recently this change made me rethink my way of listing sources. Notice that in this doi citation format the year is identified after the name of the author, and not after the work. -- Mdd (talk) 14:02, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

• Thank you Ningauble. Concerning whether we should put the date before or after a quotation, I don't have a strong preference- I only changed Mdd's formatting because I mistakenly believed they had reverted it to the original author's. The way I am inclined to see it that putting the date first is indeed preferable in the context of a Wikipedia article, because if required you will be citing the source again as "Smith (1908)" or such. In Wikiquote we are informing readers of the origin of the quote, and the title of the work is arguably more important in this context; hence I'll stick to common practice.
