The C of E (talk · contributions) - I'd like to become an admin to make Wikiquote a better site and help newer users along in their Wikiquote experience.

  • Oppose. I would expect someone that is attempting to become an admin would have at least six months' experience and/or around 500 edits in several types of articles (or similar wiki experience shown in other projects). I would also expect involvement not just in adding quotes, but also in project maintenance, as well as a demonstrated understanding of Wikiquote policies and practices, including reading the policy and maintenance pages for information. I have not seen such qualities demonstrated by this user. In addition, there have also been instances of outright hostility to other admins when trying to place messages on the user's talk page. This, taken with the lack of experience and demonstrated understanding of how Wikiquote works, leads me to oppose this request. ~ UDScott 18:01, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose due to lack of experience and unfamiliarity with community standards. I think it takes closer to 1,000 edits, including both editing articles and participating in community affairs, to learn the written and unwritten rules of the community and to demonstrate responsibility. Anyone can make mistakes, especially when starting out. The C of E has quite a way to go to demonstrate having learned from such mistakes as disruptive voting ([9], [10]), incivility toward administrators ([11]), and apparently using a sockpuppet account (The C of E is back! I admit I have done all thse things in the past and I hold my hands up and I admit that they were wrong. I've changed now and I want to try and make up for it in future by guiding newer editors and try and prevent them making the same mistakes that I made The C of E 15:51, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. There are many, many ways to make Wikiquote a better site without being an admin. In fact, I'd say more than ninety-nine percent of the work that most needs doing, and on which we spend most of our time, does not require adminship (I've made close to 18,000 edits, and only 2% are administrative).   • Oppose — Your statement, "I'd like to become an admin to make Wikiquote a better site and help newer users along in their Wikiquote experience," can easily be done without administrative tools.   • Comment Why the heck are people using things I did in the past to judge me? You should judge me by recent edits and not things I did ages ago when I (personally) was an ignorant newbie. The law here seem to be if people make a few mistakes in the past, they have to be blamed for it for ages after and be exempt from things that they could actually be quite good at which could help make this site better.
