Quotes not place for discussion

edit

I removed the quote "power of love replaces love of power' because it is inappropriate to have a paragraph long discussion about history of similar quotes in the quote section. Only quotes should be added, not a discussion about who has said / not said similar quotes. Hurin333 (talk)

I reversed your edit. Imo it is not inappropriate to have a paragraph long discussion about history of similar quotes in the quote section in the context of love. Love is a fundamental feeling which in one way or another touches humans in the same way. From this perspective I appreciate it how others voiced their similar thoughts of love. --P3Y229 (talk) 13:11, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Entirely apart from the subject matter of any quotes, it is standard practice to provide information in the comments related to any disputes about the quotations, or very similar statements. On other pages where similar statements have been attributed to others they have been placed in "Disputed" or "Misattributed" sections — because there is thus far little evidence such did not originate with Chinmoy, but mention of the disputes is provided in the article, in case anyone might wish to pursue the matter, and perhaps find more reason to dispute that assessment. ~ Kalki·· 13:39, 13 February 2014 (UTC) + tweaksReply
I just trimmed the comments to be more clearly related to the Chinmoy variants, rather than the Hendrix and Gladstone disputes. I believe I had originally composed the comments for disputes on the Hendrix pages, and have now tailored them more for this page. My own impressions at this point is that the phrase originated with Chinmoy, and became misattributed to the others — though I would welcome any evidence proving that assessment wrong, as I am interested primarily in discovering and supporting truth, and not any particular assessments of where the statements originated. ~ Kalki·· 14:14, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Another early variant: "When the power of love divinely replaces the love of power, man will have a new name: God." ~ DanielTom (talk) 14:30, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Quotes about Chinmoy

edit

The section quotes about Chinmoy was too low quality. very long extracts from obituaries (several from same ones). And one very long quote by

Quotes about people should be added if, they are famous (not just a newspaper writer). And not a long winded extract of negativity. —This unsigned comment is by Hurin333 (talkcontribs) .

I have restored the section, as it presented quotes from significant write-ups from several sources, most of them positive, though there is no requirement that they be so. Even the one which extensively quotes Carlos Santana, who was a significant disciple of Chinmoy for several years, and which contains some negative assessments of his experiences is not entirely nor even primarily negative, though it does state their relationship soured. ~ Kalki·· 22:24, 11 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Over twenty sets to Santana are very long. He was not the only disciple. When you write from every disciple the article become very long. And the source is right that this lower quality ! I think it better when very shorten Santana and a balanced citation from disciples, former disciples ore other Persons like: Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Desmond Tutu and Carl Lewis. --Richard Reinhardt (talk) 13:53, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Adding quotes by other disciples, former disciples, admirers or critics are all to be welcomed. The extensive passage regarding Santana's experiences from a Rolling Stone interview, uses several quotes by him, permitting them to be taken in the context of his own attitudes and activities, which as I have already stated, while not entirely glowing or uncritical in praise of Chinmoy is not entirely nor even primarily negative. Some might view anything less than unmitigated praise as intolerable, but I do not believe that is the case with most people, and in any event, the "quotes about" sections in articles exist for presenting both praise and criticism. ~ Kalki·· 14:42, 12 February 2014 (UTC) + tweaksReply
