John Sirmond
editSorry for my first rush comment. More likely to be identical of his nephew, Jean Sirmond (v. 1589 à Riom - 1649 à Riom) (according to w:fr:Jean Sirmond), a french poet, historian and member of academie francaise. John = Jean = Johannes. Also Bartlett says the original was in Latin, and French Wikipedia article says he was a neo-Latin poet. On the contrary, Jacques may be transliterated as Jacob or James. Aph.
- This is our man - I researched the quote attributed him by Bartlett's, and Google Books returns hits listing both John and Jean. BD2412 T 14:25, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
