Xemit
Welcome
editHello! Welcome to my talk page. Please leave a message. Xemit talk to me 17:14, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Please stop adding nonsense to Wikiquote, as you did to Firefly. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox.
Wikiquote exists for the collecting of notable quotations of famous people and famous works. For a quick overview of what Wikiquote is, read Wikiquote:Wikiquote, and also What Wikiquote is not for a list of common activities that Wikiquote does not support.
When people are not interested in responsibly contributing to the development of the project incidents of their deliberate vandalism can result in IP addresses being blocked from editing.
Thank you. —LrdChaos (talk) 17:58, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh my god. I'm SO sorry...I didn't even realize that slipped in. I'll make sure it won't happen again! Xemit talk to me 18:02, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

editHi it's me, Xemit, from Wikibooks. I just wanted to know if there is a list somewhere of the people who have CU rights on Wikiquote. Thanks for your time. Xemit talk to me 17:25, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
I have concerns about Xemit (talk · contributions), based on the following information and deductions:
IPs editing in this situation, per edit histories:
- 68.15.226.72: customer IP for Cox Communications, Atlanta, USA
- 24.67.253.203: customer IP for Shaw Communications, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
- Conclusion: probably unrelated to each other
- Relevant edits

- 16:04 68.15.226.72 edited Firefly
- 16:52 24.67.253.203 edited The Golden Girls

- 17:18 Xemit edited User:Xemit
- 17:19 Xemit edited User talk:24.67.253.203
- 17:20 Xemit edited User talk:24.67.253.203
- 17:21 Xemit asked @ "CU" on WQ:AN
- 17:25 Jeffq edited Firefly, rv last of two 68.15.226.72 edits ("rv unnecessary (& unclear) expansion of context line")
- 17:25 Xemit edited User talk:Jeffq, asking for list of WQ CUs, claiming to be from Wikibooks (false statement, according to Herbythyme)
- Hypothesis: Xemit saw this edit in Recent Changes as only other active registered user since 16:25, signalling a target for pranks.
- 17:27 Xemit edited Firefly, rv Jeffq's chg, replacing "interplanetary" w/ "fucker", edit summary "Remove Vandalisim" (even tho it was adding vandalism)
- 17:27 Xemit edited Firefly, replacing "their" w/ "asshole" & removing "setting" after "fucker"; no edit summary
- 17:28 Xemit edited Firefly, rm "asshole" (failing to restore "their")
- Conclusion: deliberate vandalism: used profanity twice (first time claiming it was removing vandalism); failed to revert 1st instance; all happened within 2 minutes, so can hardly claim to have forgotten
- 17:57 LrdChaos rv Xemit chgs to Firefly
- 17:58 LrdChaos added {{test2}} to User talk:Xemit
- 17:59 LrdChaos blanked Xemit's posts to User talk:24.67.253.203 ("blank nonsense")
- 18:02 Xemit posted apology to User talk:Xemit
- 18:02 Xemit copied LrdChaos post & Xemit response to User talk:LrdChaos
- Conclusion: user is wiki-experienced enough to use copy-conversation courtesy posting to original poster
Recent history of User:24.67.253.203 shows same pattern vandalism: replacing innocuous words with profanity and scatalogical terms. WP IP user was blocked on 27 July 2007 for 3 months.
Overall conclusion: this is a juvenile prank editor who registered "Xemit" solely for disruption on Wikiquote. He is knowledgeable not only about wiki editing and practices, but also tried to pretend to be first a newbie at WQ:AN and then an informed user from another project to me. The combined dishonesty, disingenuity, and prank editing fits the established pattern of wiki-savvy juvenile editors with no intention of good-faith editing.
As I was involved in this situation, I will leave this to another admin to review my recommendation for a possible block. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:19, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you Jeff for your close report. My additional investigation: Xemit used only one IP address, assigned to a Pennsylvania based Cabel-network, so there would be no conjunction to other two IP addresses. I'd note there has been no edit from this IP address after Xemit gave his or her apology. It was just two days ago so I feel it early to make a conclusion if s/he really changed the mind. On the other hand, blocking is not a punishment, so we wouldn't like to perform excessively. I leave therefore this for a while. But I would like to warn the other editors the used IP was exactly the one once used by User:IDENTITYCONFIRM according to WQ:AN and solely disruptions came from this IP address.--Aphaia 10:42, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
