Great session of work adding all the category links last night. I noticed it going on, but didn't want to break your stride by interrupting you with any comments on it. I know how tedious such sessions can be, and how hard to resume, once distracted from them. We might be approaching a point where many of the "List of ____" pages will be entirely obsolete. ~ Kalki 11:49, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)

  • I've noticed you've done some work relating to Films, so I am wondering if you wouldn't mind check out our discussion regarding Templates (a standard to format Movies and TV shows) at this Template discussion link We are looking forward to inputs and contributions

Signature problems edit

I was trying to make an edit to a section in Kalki's talk page, but my section edits kept giving me the wrong section. I traced the problem to your signature, which looks like the following (taken from Talk:Falling Down):

[[User:LGagnon|[[User talk:LGagnon|LGagnon]]]] 03:03, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

It appears that you're trying to create links to both your user and talk pages, but you are using a nested link, which not only doesn't appear to work consistently, but it has the tendency to "eat" the paragraph that follows it when displayed. (Check out old "Category talk:Foreign films" to see how my posting isn't displayed [leaving only my signature] and old "User talk:Kalki" to see how the "Wikimedia Commons" section header completely disappears from display. Compare them to the current versions where the missing text is displayed and notice that the only difference is your signature.)

I checked this in Firefox 1.0.2, Opera 7.23, and Internet Explorer 6.0 to make sure it wasn't a browser artifact. I think the problem is that you can't safely nest links.

I changed your signatures on Kalki's page and Category talk:Foreign films to a more convention form that still provides both links. Ordinarily, I don't touch anyone else's postings, let alone their signatures, but I needed to talk to Kalki, and I wanted my FF comment to display. (I also found the problem signature on Talk:Falling Down, Talk:List of people by name, and Category talk:Political Leaders, but I leave those for you to fix if you wish.) I apologize if you feel I've been too bold. — Jeff Q (talk) 02:56, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I've very sorry about the problems with my sig. Apperantly I didn't have the "raw signatures" box checked off, which was causing the problem. It should be solved now. -- LGagnon 04:06, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I've since learned that it probably wasn't your fault. BugZilla bug 1905 seems to have messed up wiki markup like yours. It's apparently been fixed now. Sorry to trouble you. — Jeff Q (talk) 07:20, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi, LGagnon, would you like to consider being more involved into Wikiquote maintenance task? You are an active user here and have an experience on Wiki editing.
