Proposed merger edit

Humanity and People are so alike that I could not keep them apart when googling on "the page about mankind" on Wikiquote. Therefore I suggest a merger. --Spannerjam (talk) 09:54, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • There is a bit of confusion here, I think, from the multiple meanings of the word "humanity", which can refer to both humankind (i.e. People) and the quality of being humane. Some of the quotes at Humanity refer to the former sense, and some to the latter. I would prefer to keep a page at this title for just the latter quotes. BD2412 T 19:53, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
    • Merging people into humanity would keep the status quo for the humanity page (except that there would be more quotes there, off course). Is this a bad thing? --Spannerjam (talk) 08:03, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
      • The term as used in a quote saying "Out of the crooked timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made" means something different from "cooperation among nations is not a choice; it is the one way, the only way, to protect our common security and advance our common humanity". I note, however, that this page currently seems to be fully occupied with quotes having the former meaning. Perhaps the better result would be to merge both pages into Mankind, which is currently a redirect to People, and then rewrite Humanity as a page on the the quality of being humane, rather than of being human. Done. Cheers! BD2412 T 17:15, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I endorse this action which disambiguated between humans and humane by using the headings "Mankind" and "Humanity", respectively. ~ Ningauble (talk) 17:28, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

drawing inferences edit

It can be inferred that it is a shame people are as they are, which they are, but it is equally fair to say that they could not possibly be anything else more interesting either, which is just as well. ~ Humanist 11:45 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Return to "Mankind" page.
