The Matrix
editMorpheus
edit- He's beginning to believe.
- This is a sparring program. Similiar to the programmed reality of the matrix. It has the same basic rules. Rules like gravity. What you must learn is that these rules are no different than the rules of a computer system. Some of them can be bent. Others can be broken.
- Understand?
- Then hit me if you can.
Neo
edit- This is insane. I can't do this!
- I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world...without you. A world without rules or controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.
Morpheus and Neo
edit- At last. Welcome, Neo. As you no doubt have guessed, I am Morpheus.
- It's an honor to meet you.
- No. The honor is mine. Please, come. Sit.
- I imagine that right now you are feeling a bit like alice. Tumbling down the rabbit hole, hmm?
- You could say that.
- I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?
- No.
- Why not?
- Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
- I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain. But you feel it. You felt it your entire life.
- That there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there. Like a splinter in your mind...driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
- Do you know what I'm talking about?
- The Matrix?
- Do you want to know what it is?
- The matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
- What truth?
- That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Born into a prison that you can not smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind.
- Unfortunately, no one can be told what the matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.
- This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
- Remember, all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.
- Follow me.
- The matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around. What do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inert, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it. Were you listening to me, Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?
- I was--
- Look again. Freeze it.
- This, this isn't the matrix?
- No. It's another training program designed to teach you one thing. If you are not one of us, you are one of them.
- What are they?
- Sentient programs. They can move in and out of any software still hardwired to their system. That means that anyone we haven't unplugged is potentially an agent. Inside the matrix they are everyone and they are no one.
- We have survived by hiding from them, by running from them. But they are the gatekeepers. They are guarding all the doors, they are holding all the keys which means that sooner or later someone is going to have to fight them.
- Someone?
- I won't lie to you, Neo. Every single man or woman who has stood their ground, everyone who has fought an agent has died. But where they have failed, you will succeed.
- Why?
- I've seen an agent punch through a concrete wall. Men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air. Yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is built on rules. Because of that, they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be.
- What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets?
- No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to.
Agent Smith
edit- As you can see, we've had our eye on you for some time now, Mr. Anderson. It seems that you've been living two lives. In one life, you're Thomas A. Anderson, program writer for a respectable software company, you have a social security number, you pay your taxes and you help your landlady carry out her garbage. The other life is lived in computers. Where you go by the hacker alias Neo and are guilty of virtually every computer crime we have a law for. One of these lives has a future and one of them does not. I'm going to be as forthcoming as I can be, Mr. Anderson. You're here because we need your help. We know that you've been contacted by a certain individual. A man who calls himself Morpheus. Now anything you think you know about this man is irrelevant. He is considered by many authorites to be the most dangerous man alive. My colleagues believe that I'm wasting my time with you, but I believe you wish to do the right thing. We're willing to wipe the slate clean. Give you a fresh start. And all that we're asking in return is your cooperation in bringing a known terrorist to justice.
- Hmm, Mr. Anderson, you disappoint me.
- You're going to help us, Mr. Anderson. Whether you want to or not.
- I'm gonna enjoy watching you die, Mr. Anderson.
- You hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability. It is the sound of your death. Goodbye, Mr. Anderson.
Trinity
edit- How did you do that?
- Do what?
- You move like they do. I've never seen anyone move that fast.
- Wasn't fast enough. Can you fly that thing?
- Not yet.
- I know why you're here, Neo. I know what you've been doing. I know why you hardly sleep, why you live alone, and why night after night you sit at your computer. You're looking for him. I know, because I was once looking for the same thing. And when he found me, he told me I wasn't really looking for him. I was looking for an answer. It's the question that drives us, Neo. It's the question that brought you here. You know the question just as I did.
- What is the matrix?
- The answer is out there, Neo. It's looking for you. And it will find you, if you want it to.
The Matrix Reloaded
editNeo
edit- It felt like I was back in that hallway.
- It felt like dying.
- Choice. The problem is choice.
Agent Smith
edit- Mr. Anderson! Did you get my package?
- Yeah.
- Well good.
- Surprised to see me?
- No.
- Then you're aware of it.
- Of what?
- Our connection. I don't fully understand how it happened, perhaps some part of you imprinted onto me, something overwritten or copied. That is at this point, irellevant. What matters is whatever happened happened for a reason.
- And what reason is that?
- I killed you, Mr. Anderson. I watched you die. With a certain satisfaction I might add. And then something happened. Something that I knew was impossible, but it happened anyway. You destroyed me, Mr. Anderson.
- Afterward, I knew the rules. I understood what I was supposed to do, but I didn't. I couldn't. I was compelled to stay. Compelled to disobey. And now here I stand because of you, Mr. Anderson. Because of you, I'm no longer an agent of this system. Because of you, I'm changed, unplugged, a new man so to speak. Like you, apparently free.
- Congratulations.
- Thank you. But as you well know, appearances can be deceiving which brings us back to the reason why we're here. We're not here because we're free, we're here because we're not free. There's no escaping reason, no denying purpose, because as we both know, without purpose, we would not exist.
- Smith 1: It is purpose that created us.
- Smith 2: Purpose that connects us.
- Smith 3: Purpose that pulls us.
- Smith 4: That guides us.
- Smith 5: That drives us.
- Smith 6: It is purpose that defines.
- Smith 7: Purpose that binds us.
- We're here because of you, Mr. Anderson. We're here to take from you what you tried to take from us. Purpose.
- Yes, that's it. It'll be over soon.
The Matrix Revolutions
edit
Agent Smith and Neo
edit- Mr. Anderson, welcome back. We missed you.
- Like what I've done with the place?
- It ends tonight.
- I know it does, I've seen it. That's why the rest of me is just gonna enjoy the show cause we already know that I am the one that beats you.
- Can you feel it, Mr. Anderson? Closing in on you? Oh, I can. I really should thank you for it. After all, it was your life that taught me the purpose of all life. Purpose of life is to end.
- Why, Mr. Anderson? Why, why, why? Why do you do it? Why, why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe you're fighting for something? For more than your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom or truth? Perhaps peace? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Anderson. Vagaries of perception. Temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose! And all of them as artificial as the matrix itself. Although, only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it Mr. Anderson. You must know it by now. You can't win. It's pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?
- Because I choose to.
- This is my world. My world!
- Wait. I've seen this. This is it. This is the end. You were laying there just like that and I stand here. Right here and I'm supposed to say something. I say: Everything that has a beginning has an end, Neo.
- What? What did I just say?
- No. This isn't right. This can't be right.
- Get away from me!
- What are you afraid of?
- It's a trick.
- You were right, Smith. You were always right. It was inevitable.
- Is it over?
