Merge? edit

While I realize it is not an exact match of subject, it appears that the Universities page has sufficient overlap where it might make sense to merge to two pages (I don't have a preference which to merge - I would just make one a redirect to the other). For example, the Peter Drucker quote could have just as easily (and properly) been placed on the Universities page. Any thoughts? ~ UDScott (talk) 19:37, 22 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Why categorize as science? edit

I'm not sure I understand the rationale for putting this page into the Category of Science. Surely science could be the subject of one's pursuit of higher education, but not all higher education is towards science. I would rather leave it in the category of Education (and label it with a theme-stub tag), removing any references to science. ~ UDScott (talk) 19:41, 22 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I imagine it was done not because science is a subject of education, but for something like the following reasons:
  1. There is putatively a science of education, as taught e.g. at Normal schools, in the sense that
  2. There are senses of the word "science" that denote any body of knowledge obtained through study or practice or, more specifically, any systematized knowledge that is an object of study.
In this sense there is hardly anything to which some people have given some degree of thought that may not be considered a science. I do not think this sense is a useful way to categorize anything:  a label that applies to virtually everything distinguishes nothing. ~ Ningauble (talk) 20:12, 22 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
