Talk:Evelyn Beatrice Hall
Speculating on a possible source for the Voltaire quote, this article states: "Its ultimate origin may lie in a letter to M. le Riche (February 6, 1770): 'Monsieur l'abbé, I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write.'" Unfortunately, the February 6, 1770 letter to François-Louis-Henri Leriche does not include this sentence. See the Talk:Voltaire page for a discussion of this under the heading "Text of Letter." The letter is printed in full (in French) on that page. InvisibleSun 04:44, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Date of death
editThe year of Hall's birth seems to be reliably available from contemporary biographical articles, but the year 1919 seems to have become widely circulated as the year of her death, despite accounts of contemporary correspondence or interviews as late as 1935, and it seems she was assumed to still be alive in some news reports as late as 1936. If anyone can uncover or provide more specific dates of birth or death it would be appreciated. ~ Kalki (talk) 14:44, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
