Stub tag
editThe stub tag has been changed here from author to scientist. Yet, the Wikipedia article didn't mention he was employed at any university. It seems to be an entrepreneur interested in metallurgy, who wrote about 30 papers. -- Mdd (talk) 17:15, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- The fact that he has written some papers does not mean that his main occupation is as an author - it is merely a byproduct of his work in metallurgy (similarly, Stephen Hawking has written many books and papers, but if a stub tag were needed to be applied to his page, it would be a much better fit to use the scientist stub rather than an author stub since his primary occupation is as a physicist). I changed the stub tag to reflect his primary occupation as a metallurgist. Of course, metallurgy can be classified as either a scientific or an engineering discipline, so I chose one. Being employed at a university is not a prerequisite for someone being classified as a scientist. In the end, I doubt that it matters all that much which stub classification is chosen, but I tried to select one that more closely identifies his profession. In choosing categories, I would expect more latitude, but as we usually only place a single stub tag, it seems proper to choose the best fit. ~ UDScott (talk) 17:27, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- The scientist stub doesn't feel right for this 18th century generalist. Since I am working on a (small) series of engineers, an {{engineer-stub}} might be a better alternative. -- Mdd (talk) 00:14, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
