Should women be added to categories that contain only one item such as this one? Opinions? Ottawahitech (talk) 21:06, 6 November 2022 (UTC) @User:Saroj Uprety @User:Toadboy123Reply

How about @User: Rubbish computer? Ottawahitech (talk) 17:49, 7 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ottawahitech, I would say no, but perhaps the category could be expanded to include others. On en wikipedia and simple wikipedia such categories would be considered too small. I'm not a huge fan of separate categories by gender also. Rubbish computer (Ping me or leave a message on my talk page) 18:05, 7 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Still no consensus. How about @Chongkian? Ottawahitech (talk) 14:26, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
For me, usually I will only make a category when there are at least two items inside it, unless it is a really new & fresh category (e.g. category of a country or dependency) which WQ doesn't have it before at all. In Wikipedia, this 'actress' category is the sub-category of the parent 'actor' category. But in WQ, the parent category of this 'Actresses from Bulgaria' is straight away to 'People from Bulgaria' (when we keep 'Bulgaria' as the must-have constraint), and we dont have the 'Actors from Bulgaria' yet. So sometimes, we cant always compare apple-to-apple on WQ & Wikipedia's categorization. But yeah, if there is only 1 content, then I prefer for that item to be moved 1 category up to its parent category if the parent category is inclusive enough to include that time. But again, before moving it up 1 category, I will 100% much prefer to write a new another Bulgarian actress so that we can validate that existing 'Actresses from Bulgaria' category, cuz I'm not a deletionist, more towards expansionist kinda editor. But in terms of gender, I prefer to never separate as much as I can between genders. Just use the neutral terms such as politicians, educators, diplomats, movie stars (the one inclusive of male & female, instead of actors & actresses), models etc is better. Hmmm interesting. Why? Ottawahitech (talk) 16:29, 24 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Are women excluded when we build categories specifically for their pages on WQ? edit

@Rubbish computer: Thanks for chiming in. Why are you against having categories exclusively for women? Ottawahitech (talk) 02:09, 8 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ottawahitech, I feel like it can exclude articles about women from the others, though there is probably a good argument either way. Rubbish computer (Ping me or leave a message on my talk page) 06:03, 8 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Rubbish computer: I understand your concern, but as long as women pages are categorized properly with Non-diffusing categories this should not happen. We must all be diligent watching over the many new pages produced by new editors who have come here through the Shesaid campaign at Meta. Unfortunately I cannot participate there since I am indef-blocked a Meta, so don't know if campaign participants know about this. Ottawahitech (talk) 06:48, 8 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ottawahitech, I didn't know they were non-diffusing sorry; that makes the categories sound like a much better idea. I'm interested in shesaid also, will check new pages today if I get a chance. Rubbish computer (Ping me or leave a message on my talk page) 06:51, 8 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Should new categories be created for only one item? edit

I have just created a new category Category:Christian Atheists. It has only one item - I am not aware of others on WQ that fit the description, but I created this category to provide company to Category:Jewish atheists which has quite a few items in it. Opinions? I have just stumbled on this 2010 VP discussion about Category:19th century deaths. Any comments? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 19:57, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
