VFDA input box

edit

I sure would like to either:

  1. Expand the box to allow more than just a cursory check on the name that one pastes after the "Wikiquote/Votes for deletion archive/" text; or
  2. Shorten that darned prefix!

The first either squishes the other links into multiple lines or requires its own line, lengthening the page. I haven't figure any decent approach yet to the second, as the page title should be accurately descriptive and in the correct namespace. (One blessing with the upcoming changes to VFDA is that both transclusions and internal links can drop the belabored prefix, using only "/" before the subpage titles.) Any ideas? ~ Jeff Q (talk) 22:13, 15 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've managed to make it pretty wide without squishing on my computer. Let me know how it looks on yours :) ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 22:28, 15 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
I forgot to mention my guideline for width — around 800 pixels for a full pane, which allows for a left sidebar for things like bookmarks on a 1024x768 display with both the browser window and the page panes maximized. It's obviously quite variable depending on how people configure their browsers and what kind of displays they use. On mine, the new inputbox squeezes the "Deletions" and "Modifications" links into two lines. On the other, perhaps it's not so bad. Since the inputbox style (at least in Monobook on my browser) takes up about 2.5 bullet-text lines' worth of space, moving it to its own line would take more vertical space for the "Major changes" section. I suspect there's no better (practical) solution than what you have now. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 03:40, 16 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
One last idea would be to remove it: if it ever makes its way into WQ:VFD, I think the link to "Deletions" is enough: and on VFD, we can give it its own line with characters as far as the eye can see :) ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 04:55, 16 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm considering moving this page to Wikiquote:Useful links (if the link is blue then it already happened). My reason is that the pagename is too much like Wikiquote:Shortcuts and is potentially confusing. Users who are used to the original pagename will not be inconvenienced as there will be a redirect from the original. I don't see a lot of activity here (talk:Useful shortcuts) so I don't know if this is on anyone's watchlist. I'm posting this at the VP in case there is opposition. --hydnjo talk 00:29, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Return to the project page "Useful links".
