Quotes about Mutesa II

edit
  • … Mutesa II was a leader whose life was greatly influenced – and often trapped – by intersecting but occasionally conflicting heritages. From a very young age he was cast into the leadership of a dichotomous society (old and new, conservative and modern, colonial and anticolonial, Christian and non-Christian) in a rapidly changing and challenging world.

  • “… many will say that he was ill-advised to pit the illusions of a bygone tribal glory against the claims of a modern African state; but no one can question the devotion with which he spent himself for his people and their well-being.”
