The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer

The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer is a 2005 action-adventure video game which serves as an alternative sequel to the animated film The Incredibles (2004) as well as its associated video game tie-in.

Underminer

• [last line] Behold, the Underminer! I'm always beneath you, but nothing is beneath me! I hereby declare war on peace and happiness! Soon all will tremble before me!

Underminer Threat

[The story picks up from where the movie ended with the Underminer's drills bursting from underground causing damage and destruction to Metroville. Frozone is seen skating in forms of ice to dodge incoming cars and drills in the air as the Underminer continues his announcement of his conquest for world domination.]

Underminer: Soon, this world will be like the Underworld, and I will rule the above from beneath the entire planet!

Frozone: [stops in front of the Incredibles] Who is this guy?

Underminer: You will all be crushed within my grip!

Mr. Incredible: [runs up to Frozone] Whoever he is, he's showin' up in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's showtime.

[Suddenly, two more drills burst from the ground as the Underminer laughs maniacally, causing Elastigirl and the kids to escape from them. A car is then flung towards them, but Violet protects them with her force-field.]

Underminer: [surrounded by two more drills] It begins, the rise of the Underminer!

Mr. Incredible: [to Elastigirl] Honey! We'll go after the Underminer! You and the kids stop those drills! [She and the others get the message and proceed to do so. to Frozone] Let's go!

[A seventh drill emerges next to him and Frozone, launching a car in the air in the process. The car, as well as other debris, fall to the ground near them as they proceed to pursue the Underminer.]

Frozone: Whoa! Watch out!

Mr. Incredible: Look out! We need to get to that madman before he destroys the whole city!

Frozone: Then, what are we waitin' for?

Mr. Incredible: Okay! Let's go!

[People and animals flee in terror as more debris comes tumbling down.]

Frozone: Watch out!

Mr. Incredible: It's raining boulders! Keep moving!

Frozone: Whoa! And cars too?

Mr. Incredible: Come on!

Frozone: That was close.

[An eighth drill emerges from the ground and a robot comes out of it, then smashes a green vehicle. The robot then proceeds to attack the two Supers with a mini-drill emerging onto a transport truck and releasing three more robots. That's right. The Underminer's using robots to assist him in his conquest plans. Sound familiar?]

Mr. Incredible: What is that? Some kind of transport vehicle.

Frozone: Robots! The Underminer's usin' robots.

Mr. Incredible: Then, we don't have to play nice!

Frozone: Take 'em out!

Robot: Transport unstable. Will self-destruct. Destroy the humans.

[After destroying the first wave of robots, the transporter and drill explode and the building sinks into the underground.]

Mr. Incredible: Looks like the crater opened us a path.

Frozone: Let's trial those jumpin' skills, big man!

Mr. Incredible: Race you to the top!

[They jump over a fire burning in between the platform they're on. They climb up a ledge.]

Frozone: Hold on! You need to time it just right. Ah, it's all in the timing.

[They jump over another fire and climb up another ledge, where a second robot horde awaits.]

Robot: Get them!

[They charge after the Supers, who charge after them.]

Mr. Incredible: That wasn't so hard.

Frozone: Look! More tin men!

Mr. Incredible: Heh! The Underminer must've sent them to stop us.

Frozone: Let's send 'em back to the underworld!

[After wiping out the second wave, the wall in front of them sinks to the underground after a tremor.]

Frozone: What's that? Earthquake!

Mr. Incredible: The Underminer's machines!

Frozone: I think he's up to something down and dirty.

Mr Incredible: Not if we stop him first! This way!

[They see a spiked tower up ahead. Frozone has to freeze it to destroy it, as well as the barricade behind it. After doing so, they're soon confronted by robots popping out of the other four towers and are armed with guns. They fire missiles at the Supers. They can be frozen by Frozone and thrown at them by Mr. Incredible, however.]

Frozone: Hold up. What do we have here?

Mr. Incredible: Watch out! He's got some kind of missile!

Frozone: Well, show him some muscle!

[Mr. Incredible obviously can't, due to how fast the tower is spinning.]

Mr. Incredible: I can't get close enough to that tower! Frozone! Do something about that tower!

Frozone: I might be able to freeze up the engine! I think I can freeze the tower!

[But you knew that already. After destroying them and the second roadblock, the second half awaits.]

Mr. Incredible: There are more towers along this path.

Frozone: I could show you some cover.

Mr. Incredible: There's cover behind that debris.

Frozone: Ooh, looks like somebody's been busy.

Mr. Incredible: We need to get to those towers! Watch those missiles!

Frozone: Heads up!

Gunner Robot: Die, surface dwellers. Die. Die.

Digging Deeper

[Before proceeding underground to chase after the Underminer, Mr. Incredible and Frozone take a look at the drill he left behind on the surface.]

Mr. Incredible: I don't think leaving that weapon behind was part of his plan.

Frozone: He may have been anticipatin' us, so we should be ready for anything.

Mr. Incredible: Come on!

[They leap into the underground tunnel and end up in a long pathway, where they see the Underminer's escape drill ahead and proceed forwards towards it. Suddenly, a drill robot emerges from the ground and smashes a box before tunneling back underground. It then bursts from the ground again to attack the two Supers.]

Mr. Incredible: This place is unstable. Watch out for a cave-in.

Frozone: How deep is this guy gonna run? Where does he think he's going, China?

Mr. Incredible: Come on, 'Zone, the bad guys always run! I live for the chase. Besides, looks like you could use some exercise.

Frozone: Hey now, at least I can still fit in my first suit.

Underminer: [to the heroes] Stopping to destroy you is not worth my time, surface dwellers! You may now face my mechanical minions.

[A few more drill robots pop out and attack the heroes as well. While that happens, a spike boulder falls onto the bridge, making it collapse, requiring Frozone to make an ice bridge to continue on, while avoiding missiles from a gunner robot on the other side. After creating the ice bridge, another portion of the ceiling falls down onto another pathway, which requires a second ice bridge, while also dodging another gunner robot's missiles. Five more robots await the heroes after the second ice bridge is created. While battling against them, Frozone spots some broken machinery.]

Frozone: He just left that broken down behemoth back up there.

[A drill and another wave of robots emerge.]

Mr. Incredible: Don't worry. There's plenty of fist to go around.

Frozone: Temperature's dropping. Time to freeze.

[The door ahead is blocked by three spike towers, requiring Frozone to freeze them to allow Mr. Incredible to lift open the door. They then see the Underminer again, taking a route that ends up collapsing, forcing the Supers to take a detour.]

Underminer: [laughs evilly] You fools cannot possibly fathom the complex machinations of my plan. To chase is futile! I will not be stopped!

Frozone: [seeing another wave of the Underminer's robots] These guys again? Didn't you learn your lesson in the parking lot?

[While they battle against this robot wave, the path collapses again from a portion of the ceiling, making Frozone have to generate a third ice bridge.]

Mr. Incredible: 'Zone! Ice bridge!

Frozone: Are you the one with the ice powers? I need to find some stable ground or it will fall to pieces. [They cross and battle two more robots while the path crumbles for the fourth time, with two more gunner robots on the other side of the chasm.] Those grub-bots are a problem! Distract them, I'll create the path.

Mr. Incredible: How? They're on the other side of the canyon.

Frozone: Do I have to be the brains, too? Pick somethin' up and throw it at 'em!

Mr. Incredible: That's pretty smart for an ice cube.

Sludge Station

Mr. Incredible: This leads to a doomsday device.

Frozone: This path was marked on a map leading to the Magnomizer.

Mr. Incredible: So this Magnomizer we're trying to find? I hope we know it when we see it.

Giant Robot Factory

[Upon hearing that the Magnomizer has been destroyed, an incensed Underminer activates his strongest robot, the Crustodian to create 100 giant Gilgenbots as his backup plan to conquer the world.]

Underminer: How could those Supers just blow up my Magnomizer?! Move the giant Gilgenbots army up in the schedule! I want all 100 Gilgenbots top-side by the time I start the flooding! Do not fail me, Crustodian.

Crustodian: I understand, Underminer. The deadline has changed. I have never missed the deadline. 99 more Gilgenbots shipped to the surface to complement the flooding!

Underminer: This day will still be mine! The fall of civilization will be the rise of the Underminer! Reports confirm those Supers are heading in your direction.

Crustodian: [to the other robots from a speaker] All right, workers! Let's get these bots finished! Watch for intruders! They'll be the ones trying to destroy my factory!

[Two robot workers are seen patrolling the vicinity before they get crushed and reduced to scrap from the escape pod the Supers are in following the destruction of the Magnomizer. They then exit the pod to wreck the factory.]

Mr. Incredible: What a ride! [They proceed forward, where one of the Gilgenbots is seen under construction beside a metal bridge.] Time to put a wrench in the Underminer's plans. [Some subterrabots are seen confronting the duo. They look like the robots seen in the earlier levels, but are designed differently and can block attacks. After wiping out the horde, the Supers run into a dead end above a trap door, which collapses upon the weight of both heroes.] Whoa! Lost my balance there.

The Crustodian

[The Crustodian is seen lamenting about his failure to finish all 100 Gilgenbots due to the Supers destroying 3 of them.]

Crustodian: My factory! It's falling apart! There will be many explosions! [turns to the Supers] I was ordered to make 100 giant Gilgenbots, then my function would have been complete, but my factory was unable to finish more than 97 by today's deadline! 96 of them are in the hangar and the Underminer has one up top! That means we missed by 3! Unacceptable! [rapidly] I have set the factory to self destruct to cover my failure.

Mr. Incredible: [to Frozone] Well, that's 96 robots we won't have to destroy ourselves. [to Crustodian] Knock yourself out!

Crustodian: Negative, topsider. I will need to destroy everything! It's a pity this hemisphere of the planet would need to go, too.

[Before Mr. Incredible and Frozone can battle the Crustodian, they need to shut off the switches.]

Mr. Incredible: [to Frozone] We need to shut this place down before we all go boom!

Frozone: I hear you.

[Once they deactivate the switches, smoke billows out from underneath as the Crustodian enters the battlefield and the battle begins.]

Giant Robot Factory Overlord: Factory shutdown commencing. Master shutdown self destruct switch not yet activated.

Frozone: Master shutdown self destruct switch?!

Crustodian: It's right here! It's my latest upgrade feature. [continues lamenting his failure to complete the Gilgenbot army] The army was not finished. I failed the Underminer, but, if the factory self destructs, then the Underminer will not learn this fact. [while fighting against the heroes] Ha! I am the highest upgrade worker. I am the master of the factory. Time is ticking. This place is going to self destruct with you in it. [He eventually gets damaged after the first phase.] Self defense mode taking over.

Mr. Incredible: I think it's missing a few spark plugs.

Underwater Station

Frozone: I am not doin' that again!

Mr. Incredible: Hey, this must be Dug's underwater power and pressure plant.

[A door opens and some gunner robots confront the duo.]

Gunner Robot: Intruders in the entry! Seal off the area! Signal reinforcements!

Mr. Incredible: This isn't so bad, right?

Frozone: A giant robot factory is raining down on top of us, Bob! How is that not bad?!

[More robots charge at the Supers from a doorway sealed by a force field, which Mr. Incredible and Frozone can't pass through. A switch is protected by a lid, requiring the Supers to smash before activating it to open the door in front of them.]

Underwater Station Overlord: Warning! Large objects detected near executive elevator! Maintain extreme caution in all sectors!

Mr. Incredible: Are they talking to us?

Underwater Station Overlord: Warning! Two small life forms have been detected near executive elevator! Seek and destroy!

Frozone: Trouble up ahead and pain from above. Sounds about right.
