This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War page.

Urgent Notice to Potential Contributors edit

This page has been nominated for deletion twice, and each time barely escaped alive. In order to meet Wikiquote community standards, Wikiquote pages should consist of a small collection of representative quotes, not a large collection of everything. Wikiquote is not the place for an exhaustive list of every single utterance in this game — some of the admins here don't believe that games should be here at all! Please try to keep this page somewhere around 5K in size. Please resist the temptation to flood the page with mundane quotes such as "Yahoo!" and "Attack!". Please try to be selective rather than comprehensive. I can promise you that if this page begins to grow unrestrictedly again, someone (not me, but that doesn't matter) will nominate the page for deletion again, and the next time will probably be the last. --Ubiquity 05:46, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Which "god"? edit

Uh... fluff-wise, why does the Imperial Guardsman say "Oh god, by the Emperor, not them!"? Which "god" is he referring to?

The emporer is refered to as "The emperor-god of man", so in this instance god is probably just a synonym of the word emperor. "Oh emperor, by the Emperor, not them!" would sound a bit silly.

They don't say "Oh god"

No-one says that ingame, the true quote is "By the Emperor- Not them!". Someone presumably mis-remembered it. 129.31.77.89 21:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Quotes messed up edit

Alot of the quotes are messed up. Different units say them then what are mentioned and some of the quotes I've never even heard before while playing all five currently available races.

Added new quotes from Dark Crusade

Someone should go through and delete a lot of those nonexistant quotes.

What non-existant quotes? And sign your damn statements, please. SAMAS 17:52, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you turn on 'randomized sound' in the game menu, you will actually hear more quotes.

"Are you sure you want to quit" screen edit

Is the pool the quotes on the "are you sure you want to quit" screen the same or different than the one that the title screen pulls from? Now that I think about it, I don't think they are, maybe just a subset of the main screen quotes? Just a thought.

Sound sample edit

Would it be wise to add a sample of the sound of each unit? Or would that be overdoing it.

Thanks edit

Thanks for fixing the intro and removing the old notices Ubiquity. --Jan Janssens 17:28, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

you're very welcome. --Ubiquity 17:56, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Quote removal edit

What the hell happened to this place? It used to have quotes for EVERY faction, but some douche decided to remove them all except Chaos and the original Space Marines. Seriously, just [obscene word removed by Aphaia 14:35, 9 September 2007 (UTC), after giving a chance the contributor to fix it.]. —This unsigned comment is by 87.72.89.75 (talkcontribs) .Reply

It was decided by the sysops that the article was a serious violation of copyright and other wikiquote regulations and therefore had to be reduced to this. A few interesting quotes in stead of massive unremarkable quotations. --Jan Janssens 00:09, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
And that's why wiki[pasteherewhatulike] sux so much - any moron can come here and delete work of many people... And destroy great source of quotes. Thank u very much... nobody
Agree... It was such a powerfull source of in-game quptes... And now I've to write them for my own... Copyright my a** - it's just lame excuse... VotP

Ah, I see. And sorry about the language, I just thought that the quotes we had on this page was such a great source of information to people who don't want to click on every unit about 7 times.

As a regular editor, I ask you guys for courtesy to remove offensive words which make us feel more difficulties to keep this article without respect of the existing community and its policies and guideline. Please note, civility is also a norm this community respects and simply I feel offended . Thanks for your consideration. --Aphaia 00:45, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wait, didn't I just--..*sigh* - nevermind. 87.72.89.75 12:28, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I honestly don't get the revisions. Its been said that the point was to make sure the quotes were quality, but all the removals have done is strip back the good memorable quotes and give the basics from the game. Also, if I remember correctly, this article used to have other Warhammer 40k quotes not from the Dawn of War game, or was there a Warhammer 40k wikiquote article that got deleted? I honestly don't believe even GW would get up in arms about copyright violation from some quotes from a game or books as long as credit was given. Lord Asmodeus 15:44, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup edit

I've restored the {{game-cleanup}} tag that this article has had apparently for well over a year because the basic issue of identifying specifically which game and where in each game these quotes may be found, in order to be able to verify them, has not been addressed. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 22:43, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clean up edit

There's now almost nothing left...why for Emperor's sake? It was perfect, now there's just nothing

History Deletion ? edit

Small question to the sysops. Maybe we could/should delete the revision history for this article so that we can avoid rollbacks to the 190 kb times? --Jan Janssens 22:11, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

All Gone edit

Almost all the quotes are missing, where did they go? 71.185.126.62 21:05, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

URGENT: This article may be deleted edit

Notice that as of 11/6/07 this article has again been nominated for deletion. The reason is that it has grown from a small collection of representative quotes to a large collection of everything. Wikiquote is not the place for an exhaustive list of every single utterance in this game — some of the admins here don't believe that games should be here at all! I highly recommend that someone significantly pare back this article to its "essentials", and that the rest of you not respond by immediately restoring deleted material.

If you wish to vote on the deletion, you may do so here, but let me warn you of two things:

  • Anonymous votes are not counted. If you want your vote to count, get a userid.
  • Votes must be accompanied by a reason. If you insult the admins, denigrate WQ policies, use offensive language, or spam the process with lots of "Keep" votes with no reasons, you might as well be voting "delete."

Hope this helps. By the way, I am not an admin, just an interested observer. --Ubiquity 19:30, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The main problem seems to be a single update at 08:07, 5 November 2007 by an anonymous user at 209.17.190.78 who added 175K bytes to the article. Perhaps someone could revert to the article before that? --Ubiquity 19:34, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

2nd vote for deletion result edit

Per Wikiquote:Votes for deletion/Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (2nd), this article has been reverted to an earlier, trimmed version to avoid excessive quoting, partly to focus attention on quoteworthiness and partly to avoid copyright violation. Furthermore, it has been protected against anonymous editing. Editors are encouraged to register an account not only to be able to edit this article, but also to get formal credit for their contributions.

Editors who do not wish to register can still leave suggestions and requests on this talk page. I would strongly recommend, however, against pasting huge tracts of quotes here, as these have repeatedly been the reason for severely cutting back this article and now for protecting it. Such additions are likely to be removed without comment. Please remember that the purpose of Wikiquote is collect the very best quotes of people and creative works, not to establish a comprehensive (and usually not legal) collection of any work. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 15:43, 14 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

As suggested, I tried to set it an expiry: you could reset it, if you like :) --Aphaia 13:22, 15 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Aphaia's block should come off automatically on 25 December, so I guess see how things proceed from there. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 18:32, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

New cleanup round edit

Hi. I'm a 40k fan and I'd like to help save this page from the eventual third and lethal deletion vote. That's why I'm taking charge of revising the article and clean quote repetitions, less important quotes and make a general format for all categories. I hope to shrink the article to 5k size but I think it won't be enough, since there are to be stored quotes for 9 races and Imperium's Thought of the Day, and I think that 5k won't last even for the most significant quotes for each of the races.
