The right to be right
editNot sure which page it's from: «The right to be right is irrelevant; it’s only the right to be wrong that makes you free.» --RainCT (talk) 20:40, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hi RainTC, It seems this phrase just popped-up on the internet around 2012. I couldn't find one particular original source. I did find a rather old/original source on the phrase "the right to be right":
- In a democratic society it is just as important to possess the right to be wrong as the right to be right; for in any society where a wrong opinion cannot be uttered it is not possible for long to utter a right opinion.
- Frank Tannenbaum "On Certain Characteristics of American Democracy." Political Science Quarterly 60.3 (1945): 343-350.
- In a democratic society it is just as important to possess the right to be wrong as the right to be right; for in any society where a wrong opinion cannot be uttered it is not possible for long to utter a right opinion.
