Talk:The Sopranos
I have added a LOT of stuff...practically everything you see on this page was done by me. These are my ip addresses and I spent months collecting all the awesome quotations from this show:
149.68.168.147 and 72.227.132.62
Just for reference, I will be adding more for season six when the season is released on dvd. But until then, any quotations added to season six are most likely inaccurate by a word or two. I know for a fact that none of my quotations are false by even ONE word. Every single one of my quotes are EXTREMELY ACCURATE. So if anyone adds a quote, I will have to check the accuracy because I want the quotes to be EXACT. - Zarbon
- Great. Go Zarbon. I used to watch a little bit of DBZ myself. Wish I wasn't an addict for... well, you know? ... Brendan Filone 02:54, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Too many quotes
editI have added the check copyright tag to this page, as there are too many quotes per episode. In some cases, there are nearly 20 quotes per episode. This page needs serious trimming to get it down to single digits per episode. ~ UDScott 15:57, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
yeah but in some episode, there's only 5. It actually balances out since if I deleted from some, I'd be forced to add less memorable quotes in ones that have 5 in order to make up for it. I want an enormous amount as I've collected it all within the last 3 years myself. - Zarbon
- This article is being edited by one or more editors who have been refusing to accept the rather loose copyright restrictions that we are attempting to enforce on Wikiquote. If this article is not brought into compliance with guidelines discussed at Wikiquote:Copyrights and its talk page, it may be replaced with a {{copyvio}} notice, requiring its complete rewriting or eventual deletion. One commonly recommended guideline is trimming each episode to 3-5 quotes, with only rare episodes having no more than 8 quotes.
- Please help us try to avoid copyright problems. Thank you for your assistance. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 22:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
wait. what makes it a copyright infringement? is it because of no linking? I mean, I don't know how to include sufficient info in order to make it comply to the copyright. having more or less quotes doesn't really fit under copyvio (violation)...what can I do in order to have this page maintain the way it is, the way it has been for around 2 years now. - Zarbon
- I have just reverted another mass of additions to this article by Zarbon. This is not a value judgment on the quotes, but rather an attempt to stem the trend of copyright-violating excessive quoting. The alternative is to replace the entire page with a {{copyvio}} notice that would require it to be rewritten from scratch. I instead blocked the violator for 1 week, because I hold out some hope that other editors of this article can still help to keep the quoting down to 3-5 quotes of the most memorable quotes per episode in order to avoid problems with copyrights. Please help the community focus on a select set of quotations from copyrighted works such as this. Thank you for your assistance. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 19:44, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- I've started the trimming effort, just to provide an example. I've trimmed quotes from the first two episodes (and added character wikilinks). I will return to do more later on, unless someone else wants to continue the effort. ~ UDScott 19:59, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I heavily cut down all the episodes to 10 like you stated earlier. However, we still need to add those wikipedia links to people's names who are mentioned the first time. - Zarbon
- Wiki-star: i don't know... we may still have a copyright problem on our dirty hands. I do not want to be responsible for any damages. I think the article should be trimmed down a bit more. what do you buds think? Wiki-star
- There is no longer a copyright problem. You are here out of spite for being banned on numerous wiki locations. Please stop vandalising my efforts here. I have spent years compiling these quotations for these shows. You are continuously following my activity and reverting and vandalising. I am going to report you. - Zarbon 18:14, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Wiki-star: Great, because of you, the page was protected. And yes, there is a copyright problem, some of those quotes have freakin' 12 in one section. And go ahead, REPORT ME! as you have been doing nonchalantly. Wiki-star
- Please tell me which episode has twelve and I will deplete from it personally. I just checked for the hundredth time just to make sure they all have a maximum of ten and not more. Please provide proof to this by listing the episode title. Bare in mind that a quote is separated with the page breaks, so a quote can be from one person to fifty long sentences. - Zarbon 21:47, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Heavy Vandalism
edit- There is not much to add, other than the obvious fact that Wiki-star is a major vandaliser, sockpuppeteer, and reverting menace. He has forced me to go through the same lengths on wikipedia in order to stop him from reverting and vandalising. As the sole cause of my being banned on wikipedia, for reverting and edit warring, I am more than obligated to warn the admins here of his menacing tactics. It's best to ban this threat now along with the ip address so further vandalism can be prevented. Anything that this vandaliser says should not be taken seriously. He has been following my activity and trying to have me banned for reverting his vandalisms. He has not only created over ten names on wikipedia, of which all are banned, he has also come to my forum and caused vandalism there as well. Just take a look at his user page and you will see that his goal is to "get revenge" as he has stated, by continuously and nonchalantly reverting and vandalising my contributions. Check his user page and user page history to see his remark. - Zarbon 18:29, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Wiki-star: I don't know what is your problem Zarbond. you created sockpuppets to try to have me banned, and you knew better than that. Why couldn't you report me yourself and instead have your IP socks do all the work for you. I only want the best for the encyclopedias and I want to show everyone the true YOU, Zarbon the sockpuppet. Wiki-star
- Please refrain from calling me Zarbond. You also have an issue of verbal attacks, which can clearly be seen in prior pages. I have contacted many wikiquote members to help me resolve this because you are indeed a threat to the wikiquote society. Also, I will try to include many members so that they can see the threat themselves and have it removed as quickly as possible. Here is further evidence of this members vandalism on wikipedia: List of Sockpuppet Names and Wiki-star. It's safe to say this vandaliser is a heavy problem. - Zarbon 18:33, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Wiki-star: If that's how you wanna tango, please refer to Zarbonn's confirmed socks and suspected socks. It is safe to say that both me and Zarbon had been heavy abusers in the past. Unlike the childish Zarbon, I've changed for the better and no longer do i do such catastrophes. Wiki-star
This section is entirely removed due to irrelevance to the subject of the article. --Aphaia 19:13, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- I re-replaced the section because it talks a little of the article and of what can be done to improve it when two users, such as Wiki-star and Zarbon, are having a bitch-fit about it. Removing sections at random does not help anyone solve anything. Brendan Filone 15:14, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- I re-removed the material and support the original removal for two reasons:
- The argument, along with others in more appropriate venues (like user talk pages), seems to be part of a sockpuppet editing war that is only incidentally about the subject matter.
- New user Brendan Filone (talk · contributions) is part of this sockpuppet war and is taking actions normally reserved to sysops and experienced editors against other participants, leading me to believe he is a sockpuppet of Zarbon (talk · contributions), who has also been "playing sysop".
- I have blocked Brendan Filone. Editors are advised not to revert these changes, but are welcome to question any sysop actions at Wikiquote:Administrators' noticeboard. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 18:41, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Copyvio problem
editThis article was reported as a copyright violation problem on Wikiquote:Copyrights over a month ago. Although the editor may have cited it more as part of a stream of disruptive edits, he was correct in listing it there. It's been over a month, and no one seems to have addressed that request, so I am flagging this article for copyright review. What this means is that we should reduce the amount of quoting to something that is much less likely to trigger copyright-violation concerns. Our informal benchmark is 3-5 quotes per TV episode. That's not an average; that means each episode should be limited to no more than 5 quotes. We might have a few more (perhaps up to 8) for exceptionally quotable episodes, but the number of those episodes should be a very small percent.
There are often many quotes in these articles that shouldn't be here at all because they are significant for the visual scene, the sound effects, the acting, plot revelations, and other elements that aren't pithy, original phrases, which is what Wikiquote collects. Just two quick examples:
- "Who the fuck does he think he is?" is not original. Any such common statement is neither pithy nor original and should be deleted.
- The "Take your clothes off" dialog from "Nobody Knows Anything" makes no sense without context, and is likely not one of the most compelling quotes from the show.
I ask regular readers and editors of this article to spend the next week trimming this article under these guidelines. I will check back sometime after 21:00, 6 August 2007 (UTC), and if there are episodes that still appear to be copyvios, I will trim them myself. Please help Wikiquote out by cooperatively doing this work instead of leaving it for others. Thank you. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 20:14, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've trimmed quotes and added some character wikilinks for the first 4 episodes as an example. I'll try to do more when I can. ~ UDScott 20:48, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- It's a bit later than I'd expected, but I've just severely trimmed the first three seasons, since no one but UDScott has shown any interest in fixing the cited copyvio problem. I plan to do the last three later this week, as time permits, unless other folks beat me to it. Please note that while I tried to keep each episode to no more than 5 quotes, I removed all the quotes from some episodes. Just because we set an upper limit does not mean that each episode merits any quotes. What ultimately matters when including is the quality (i.e., pithiness, originality, memorability, relevance beyond the fan base), not the quantity (except to avoid copyvio). ~ Jeff Q (talk) 13:06, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Good. Good.
editI L-O-V-E how the article was split into different pages. It is about time somebody did something right. hey, the show is over now but quotes can and will ALWAYS be added. Tony Soprano
