There is no doubt that she was a brilliant conversationalist, but quotes popularly attributed to her in the 20th century are mostly apocryphal. According to "The New American Cyclopaedia" (1860 edition), Vol. 10, p. 453: "In the works of St. Évremond, who was one of her lovers, are some letters by her which are the only authentic pieces from her pen, though La Coquette Vengée (Paris, 1649) and other works are attributed to her."
