Talk:Moby-Dick

This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Moby-Dick page.

Just added a snippet from "The Try-Works", the text of which I'd copied from the book a while back. When looking for a chapter reference though, I used google, and found http://www.melville.org/diCurcio/96.htm -- which contains part of the quote I added, but the text is different. Different editions or something? I'll dig up my own some other time.

Objections to thought provoking images edit

This page is rife with random pictures with quotes attached. Whoever placed them is trying to imply theological reasonings and a reverence for the quotes. These need to be removed.

This site is devoted to quotes and the presentation of quotes, and the use of images to highlight significant quotes and increase the visual appeal and actually stimulate intellectual considerations have long been used here. To object to theological reasonings being found or noted in this masterpeice which all but the most simplistic and shallow readers and reviewers recognize as loaded with many forms of theological, mystical and ethical observations, speculations, metaphors and analogies is rather absurd. Two of the captions and images you removed were "We ourselves see in all rivers and oceans. It is the image of the ungraspable phantom of life; and this is the key to it all." and "I have no objection to any person’s religion, be it what it may, so long as that person does not kill or insult any other person, because that other person don’t believe it also." The images which were chosen for them were entirely appropriate. ~ Kalki (talk · contributions) 06:26, 24 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
