Attributed quote edit

If someone can verify this in an unabridged edition, it may be worthy of inclusion:

  • “. . .To that question posed by Ecclesiastes three thousand years ago — Who can fathom the depths of the abyss? — only two men have the right to answer: Captain Nemo and I.” — Reader's Digest Condensed Version

(Found in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea article, which I am proposing to delete.) Cheers. ~ Ningauble 19:46, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Quotes mis-attributed edit

«These sentences, from an early translation of the book (Griffith and Farran, 1871), have no source in the original French text.» Then what is the point of including them here? - 37.9.29.40 21:35, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

It appears as a quotation of Verne in several quotation sites on the internet. The point of pointing out that it is a misattribution here is to inform people who search for it that it is a mistake. Unlike other quotation sites whose mission is to attract eyeballs to view advertisements, Wikiquote's mission is to inform an educate. ~ Ningauble (talk) 15:03, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
