What does "It's my mad money" mean? What is mad money? --72.187.190.227 12:05, 23 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Originally, it was a common expression (in my grandparent's generation or earlier) with this meaning: a lady on a date should expect the gentleman to pay, but she should always carry enough cash for cab fare in case she gets mad at him and wants to leave. Later, the expression was repurposed to mean a reserve of extra money that one can afford to spend on a whim, or "go mad with it" (current vernacular: "go crazy with it"). Lucy's joke plays on the double meaning, first referring to reserved funds and then suggesting she has reason to get angry. ~ Ningauble (talk) 20:55, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
