Talk:Human, All Too Human

I wrote these down on scraps of paper; I'm just going to type them all in and prune them later. These quotes are taken from the translation by Marion Faber & Stephen Lehmann translation (ISBN 0140446176); what's the preferred way of crediting sources? -- Jimregan 13:11, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)

The Wikiquote:Template may have what you were after: anything other than that we have not yet discussed. Nanobug 14:37, 15 Sep 2003 (UTC)
I saw that, and should have been more specific - I mean for all of the quotes on a page. Having given some further thought to it, I'd assume it's alright to give the full citation for the first quote and an abbreviation thereafter - is that OK? -- Jimregan 19:29, 15 Sep 2003 (UTC)

The German text is available here; I'm putting in source information and the original quotes as I can find them. I only studied German for 3 years, and reading Nietzsche in German is outside of my abilities, so some help would be nice! -- Jimregan 20:13, 15 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Yes, I only studied German for 3 years as well. However since you also have a source for the translations, do you think we should tweak them or leave them as is? (I also find reading the German and then the translations helps to bring back all those words I thought I had forgotten.) Nanobug 02:05, 16 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Well, truth is I no longer have the source of the translations; I was just jotting them down from a friends books as I read them (while on holiday). I did make sure to keep note of the ISBN, translator(s) and publisher, and have checked that the books are available, so as soon as I recover financially from my holiday, I'll buy the books. For the most part, the differences between the public domain e-texts and the books I read are simply that more modern English was used in the books, but I've left notes where I thought there was an important difference. -- Jimregan 02:31, 16 Sep 2003 (UTC)

This is the template I'm using for entries, I'm just putting it here to have a convenient place to copy and paste from :) I'll be using public domain sources for all further quotes (I may even replace existing quotes) for the following reasons:

  1. More compatible with GFDL
  2. Sources from the net are more easily inspected
  3. I'm broke at the moment :)
