Quotes edit

  • I want to play a game.
  • What would you have done five years ago? Would you have followed the manual then? Would you have broken my jaw with a flashlight?
  • Not long to go now until your son is pissing blood.
  • [Whilst Eric Matthews has forced a pistol into his mouth] Game—Game over. I'll take you to the house.
  • [Directing Eric to the house] It's the last house on the left.

Tapes edit

  • Hello, Michael. I want to play a game. So far, in what loosely could be called your life, you have made a living watching others. Society would call you an informant, a rat, a snitch. I call you unworthy of the body you possess. Of the life you've been given. Now we will see if you are willing to look inward, rather than outward, to give up the one thing you rely on in order to go on living. The device around your neck is a death mask. The mask is on a string timer. If you do not locate the key in time, the mask will close. Think of it like a Venus Flytrap. What you're looking at right now is your own body, not more than two hours ago. Don't worry. You're sound asleep, and can't feel a thing. Taking into account that you are at a great disadvantage here, I am going to give you a hint as to where I have hidden the key. So listen carefully. The hint is this: [TV screen shows an x-ray.] It's right before your eyes. How much blood would you shed to stay alive, Michael? Live or die, make your choice.
  • Greetings...and welcome. I trust that you are all wondering where you are. I can assure you that while your location is not important, what these walls offer you is important: salvation, if you earn it. Three hours from now, the door to this house will open. Unfortunately, you only have two hours to live. Right now, you are breathing in a deadly nerve agent. You've been breathing it since you arrived here. Those of you familiar with the Tokyo subway attacks will know its devastating effects on the human body. The only way to overcome it and walk out that door is to find an antidote. Several are hidden around this house. One is inside the safe in front of you. You all possess the combination to the safe. Think hard. The numbers are in the back of your mind. The clue to their order can be found over the rainbow. Once you realize what you all have in common, you will gain a better understanding of why you're here. X marks the spot for that clue, so look carefully. Let the game begin.
  • Hello, Obi. I want to play a game. For years you have burned those around you with your lies, cons, and deceits. Now you will have a chance to redeem yourself, for the games you've played with others, by playing one of mine. Inside the device in front of you are two antidotes for the poison coursing through your veins. One is my gift to you for helping me kidnap the others. The second is yours to donate. However, one will come with a price. Remember Obi: Once you are in Hell, only the devil can help you out.
  • Hello, Xavier. I want to play a game. The game I want to play is very similar to the game you've been playing as a drug dealer. The game of offering hope to the desperate, for a price. I think we can agree that your situation is desperate. So, I offer you hope. The price you pay is that you must crawl into the same pit of squalor you force your customers into. By entering this room, you have started a timer. When the timer expires, the door in front of you will be locked forever. Only in finding the key before the timer runs out can you unlock it and retrieve the antidote inside. I will give you just one hint where to that key is: It will be like finding a needle in a haystack. Let the game begin.

Michael Marks edit

  • Help! Anyone? HELP!!!
  • Who the fuck are you? Who the fuck are you?! Who the fuck are you?!
  • Someone, help me!
  • Help me!!!
  • (Last words) No,no,no no,no,no,no,no,no,no!

Eric Matthews edit

  • [To Daniel] Your mother gets to keep custody, I get to take you into custody.
  • [To Daniel] Well then go!
  • [To Jigsaw] Hey. Is this close enough?
  • [To Jigsaw, about his son] You MOTHERFUCKER!! WHERE IS HE?!
  • I don't want to talk to him.
  • The clock is ticking, John.
  • It's a little hard to follow the manual when you've got my son, John.
  • First, you said you wanted to talk. Then you said you wanted to play a game. You're talking, but it means NOTHING!
  • Putting a gun to someone's head and forcing them to pull the trigger is still murder.
  • Shut the FUCK up!
  • [Amanda locks him in the bathroom from the first film] I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! YOU FUCKING BITCH! YOU FUCKING BITCH! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! No! NO!!! [Screams fade away]

Jonas edit

  • We don't even know what's in those syringes. You willin' to stick yourself in the arm to find out?
  • Whatever we do, we've got three minutes to get it done.
  • You and me, we can keep going at each other like we're back in the yard, or we can come together and figure out who's doing this to us.
  • You remind me of me. No matter what kind of fucked-up situation you're in, you always got to find yourself a enemy. You know what? I got enemies, man. Outside these fucking walls, bro. And they're looking for me. And if they don't find me, they're going after the ones closest to me. My family. You understand?
  • All I'm saying is let's just take our time and come up with a game plan

Xavier edit

  • [To Addison] Look who's talking. The only door you know how to open...is between your legs!
  • It's just me and that's the way I like it.

Dialogue edit

Daniel: Took you long enough.
Eric Matthews: [Sarcastically] I'm sorry. I didn't have it penciled in on my schedule.

Daniel: I just think I should go back to Mom's early.
Eric Matthews: What did you say?
Daniel: What, can you not hear me?
Eric Matthews: No, I can't hear you. Say it again.
Daniel: [Slowly] I think I should go back to Mom's--
Eric Matthews: Well, then go!

Kerry: It was the arriving officer who called it in as your buddy.
Eric Matthews: He wasn't my buddy. He was an informant. This officer IDed him just by looking at him?
Kerry: Well, he wasn't positive. That's why I wanted you here.
Eric Matthews: All right. Well, let me get a look at his face. I'll tell you in two seconds if it's him or not.
Kerry: Therein lies the problem.

Kerry: All right, let's just pretend for a second that this is new to us, all right? Can you think of anyone that would want to do this to your guy?
Eric Matthews: Well, he's an informant, Kerry. You want a list of possible suspects? Grab a phone book.
Kerry: Crackhead county punks don't have engineering degrees. Now I'd say that our cause of death here narrows that list down just a little bit, wouldn't you?

Eric Matthews: You know, you and that guy have a lot in common, Kerry.
Kerry: Oh, yeah?
Eric Matthews: Yeah. You both like playing games with people.
Kerry: Excuse me?
Eric Matthews: Don't ever pull some shit like that again on me at a crime scene.
Kerry: I'm not the one taunting you. He is.
Eric Matthews: Doesn't mean I have to take the bait. Besides, I got a full caseload as it is.
Kerry: A bunch of desk errands and shit work.
Eric Matthews: Yeah, well, between that and the IA breathing down my neck, my son's budding criminal career and my wife's fucking divorce lawyers, I'd say my hands are pretty full, wouldn't you?
Kerry: Yeah. Look, I'm sorry. I was hoping, maybe, that I could bring you in on this one.
Eric Matthews: We're not partners anymore, Kerry.
Kerry: Hey, forget that we're not partners. What about the fact this guy wrote your fucking name on the wall, huh? He asked for you!
Eric Matthews: It's not the first time some psychopath called me out.
Kerry: All right. What about the fact that I'm asking?
Eric Matthews: Can't help you.
Kerry: [Sarcastically] Wow.
Eric Matthews: You're the Jigsaw expert.
Kerry: When did you stop being a cop?

Kerry: Thought your caseload was big enough as it is.
Eric Matthews: Just taggin' along for the ride.

Eric Matthews: Hey. This close enough?
Rigg: Get his ass out of here.
[Eric starts to leave]
John: Actually, I will need to remain here while you deal with your problem, Detective Matthews.
Eric Matthews: What problem?
John: The problem in that room.

Eric Matthews: What the fuck is that?! Hey! HEY! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!
John: It's your son Daniel. You remember him, don't you?
Eric Matthews: I know who he is, you piece of shit! What is he doing on that fucking monitor?!
John: Well, I haven't looked at the monitors for some time, so it would be hard for me to say, but I would imagine he's cowering in a corner with a look on his face--
Eric Matthews: You motherfucker! [Runs forward - Rigg restrains him] You motherfucker! Where is he?! WHERE IS HE?!
John: Where is he? That's a problem you're gonna have to solve before it's too late. He has about... two hours before the gas creeping into his nervous system begins to break down his body tissue and he begins to bleed from every orifice he has. [Smiles] Oh, yes. There will be blood.
Eric Matthews: Tell me where he is.
John He's in a safe place.

Gus: How do you just wake up in a room and have no idea where you are?
Xavier: I guess you've never been drunk before.
Gus: I've been drunk. I spent three years at college drunk. This isn't drunk. This is kidnapping.

[Amanda pulls out a loose section of bricks, finding a tape recorder]
Jonas: What is this?
Amanda: Everything you need to know is on this. [Starts the tape]

Jonas: You better start talking right now! What is this?!
Amanda: It's a game.
Jonas: AIN'T NO FUCKING GAME! MY MAN JUST GOT HIS HEAD BLOWN OFF!
Amanda: He's testing us.
Jonas: Who's testing us?!
Amanda: Jigsaw.
Jonas: Who the hell is Jigsaw?!
Addison: You don't watch the fucking news?
Jonas: No. Who is he?
Addison: He's a serial killer.
Amanda: No, he's not. He's testing us. He wants us to survive this. But you have to play by the fucking rules!
Jonas: OK, I'm gonna ask you again. How do you know all this?
Amanda: Because I've played before.

Eric Matthews: What do you want with me?
John: A little of your time, Detective.
Eric Matthews: I don't have any time.
John: You asked me what I wanted and I told you. Believe me when I tell you your son is in a lot of trouble.
Eric Matthews: And if I give you a little bit of my time? What then?
John: I only want to talk to you. Everyone else must leave. Those are my conditions.
Eric Matthews: No. It's a crime scene. Nobody leaves.
John: They don't have to leave the building. They just have to leave this area long enough for me to talk to you. If you agree to that, then you will see your son again.
Eric Matthews: If I don't see my son, I swear to god I'll rip your fucking head off.
John: I don't intend to mock you, Officer, but I'm a cancer patient. How could you possibly put me in any more pain than I'm already in?

Kerry: Should have your tech team here in about an hour or two.
Eric Matthews: He said he wants to talk to me.
Kerry: Well, maybe you should talk to him.
Rigg: Well, fuck that. Five minutes. Old-school method.
Kerry: He's not gonna respond to phone-book treatment. You know that.
Rigg: Don't underestimate a tried and true method here.
Kerry: I am the one who's been working on this case since day one. I have been spending every waking moment piecing it together.
Rigg: Maybe that's why you ain't got no family for yourself and you can't understand what this man is going through.
[Kerry approaches Eric]
Eric Matthews: Don't.
Kerry: Look.
Eric Matthews: I don't want to talk to him.
Kerry: Listen, you already lost your son one time before because you got involved with me. It's not gonna happen again.
Rigg: This is bullshit! What are we gonna do?
Kerry: Just humor him. Buy us a little more time. You can win this, Eric. You can beat him. Come on.
Eric Matthews: All right.

Eric Matthews: Okay. Let's talk.
John: Sit down. [Eric grabs a chair and sits in it] I want to play a game. The rules are simple. All you have to do is sit here and talk to me, listen to me. [Eric puts a walkie-talkie on the floor] If you do that long enough, then you will find your son in a safe and secure state. We haven't been properly introduced. My name's John.
Eric Matthews: I thought you like to be called Jigsaw.
John: No. [Laughs] It was the police and the press who coined the nickname Jigsaw. I never encouraged or claimed that. The jigsaw piece that I cut from my subjects was only ever meant to be a symbol that that subject was missing something. A vital piece of the human puzzle. The survival instinct.
Eric Matthews: This is all really, really interesting, John. But right now I'd really like for you to talk to me.
John: I am talking to you. You're not listening. Don't forget the rules.
Eric Matthews: I am listening to you, but all I'm getting is the same sick fucking bullshit that comes about two seconds into every interview I've ever done with one of you fucking people.
John: Well, that's an interesting approach to police work, isn't it? Aren't you supposed to be convincing me that I'm your friend, lulling me into a false sense of security so that I'll confide in you?
Eric Matthews: It's a little hard to follow the manual when you've got my son, John.
John: The manual? What do you really want to do to me right now, huh? What would you have done five years ago? Would you have followed the manual then? Would you have broken my jaw with a flashlight?
Eric Matthews: You seem to know a whole lot about me.
John: I know you were once considered a fearless police officer. Do you feel a whole lot safer now that you only sit behind a desk?
Eric Matthews: I feel a whole lot of things right now.
John: But you feel alive. That's what you feel, and that's the point. [Pauses] Would you... kindly get me a glass of water? [Holds up a paper cup] I would very much appreciate that.

[Xavier tries to break open a door with the bat, but steel bars behind the doors block their escape]
Xavier: Fuck!
Addison: Well, we've established that the macho-bullshit approach isn't opening the door. Any other suggestions?
Xavier: Look who's talking. The only door you know how to open... is between your legs!
Addison: [lunges toward Xavier] Why don't you just shut the hell up?!
Jonas: Come on, man.
Xavier: [to Addison] Why don't you shut the hell up?!
Addison: I'm sick of your bullshit!
[Jonas tries to separate the two]
Xavier: That's right! Back up, bitch!
Addison: That's your luck, bending on over in prison, you little dickhead! Asshole!
Xavier: What you gonna do? Bitch!
[Jonas finally separates them]
Jonas: Hey! Hey! Okay, man. Nobody takes shit from nobody. We've established that.

Xavier: "Obi?"
Jonas: What the fuck is a Obi?
Obi: Ah-bee. It's my name.

Laura: You put us in here! You can get us out of here!
Obi: No, I can't.
Xavier: Then you're a dead man.
Obi: So are you.
[Xavier approaches Obi to kill him]
Addison: He's not gonna... [Restrains him] Wait, wait, wait, wait! Wait. Listen to me. Okay, we got two antidotes at the back of that oven. We're wasting time here.
Laura: Wasting time?! Are you kidding me?! He kidnapped me in the middle of the night!
Jonas: We don't even know what's in those syringes. You willing to stick yourself in the arm to find out?
Daniel: Okay, wait. So who gets them? I mean, there's two. So which two people get the antidote?
Xavier: We'll work that out later! [Grabs Obi] Right now, you're going in there... [Holds the knife to Obi's throat] Or I'll kill you where you stand!
[Obi calmly slits the knife across his throat, much to Xavier's shock]
Obi: If you're gonna threaten me with a knife, you might as well cut me a little. I guess I'm going in there to get those needles. But I get one.

Rigg: Another one down, Kerry. How much more time are we gonna waste on this bastard?
Kerry: We are not wasting time. We are doing exactly what we should be doing before the tech team gets here.
Rigg: It's not what it looks like to me.

John: You see, Detective. Darwin's theory of evolution and survival of the fittest, based on his little trip to the Galápagos, no longer applies on this planet. We have a human race that doesn't have the edge or the will to survive.
Eric Matthews: What the fuck do you want?!
John: It's hard to remain calm, isn't it? When your son is walking around on those monitors.
Eric Matthews: I can't give you what you want if you don't tell me what the fuck it is.
John: I told you what it is. Just remember the rules.
Eric Matthews: No, you said you wanted to talk. Then you said you wanted to play a game. You're talking, but it means NOTHING!!
John: What do you think the cure for cancer is, Eric?
Eric Matthews: What?
John: The cure for cancer? What is it?
Eric Matthews: I don't know what it is, but I know it's not killing and torturing people for your own sick fucking pleasure.
John: I've never murdered anyone in my life. The decisions are up to them.
Eric Matthews: Yeah, well, putting a gun to someone's head and forcing them to pull the trigger is still murder.
John: Since when has force been a problem for you? Why are you so desperate to get your son back?
Eric Matthews: 'Cause he's my son...
John: What's the last thing you said to him before you left him?
[Flashback]
Eric Matthews: Well, then go!
[Present]
John: Seems to me that the knowledge of your son's impending death is causing you to act. Forgive all his sins, to wipe the slate clean. Why is that we're only willing to do that, when a life is at stake?
Eric Matthews: I've always loved my son. That's never changed.
John: No... no... It's changed now. You see, the knowledge of death... changes everything. If I were to tell you the exact date and time of your death... it would shatter your world completely. I know. Can you imagine what it feels like to have someone sit you down and tell you that you're dying? The gravity of that? That the clock's ticking for you. In a split second, your world is cracked open. You look at things differently, smell things differently. You savor everything, be it a glass of water or a walk in the park.
Eric Matthews: The clock is ticking, John.
John: But most people have the luxury of not knowing when that clock's going to go off. And the irony of it is that that keeps them from really living their life. It keeps them sleepwalking. It keeps them drinking that glass of water, but never really tasting it.
Eric Matthews: You can still fix this, John.
John: Yeah, but can we fix you?
Eric Matthews: Me?
John: I'm not fixable. I've got cancer.
Eric Matthews: [in disbelief] You're using cancer as an excuse for what you do?
John: No. The cancer isn't what started me in my work. It was the moment I decided to end my life... that started me in my work. I had literally driven myself to suicide, and I had failed. My body had not been strong enough to repel cancer cells, yet I had lived through a plunge off a cliff. But, to my amazement, I was alive. And I was determined to spend the rest of my days testing the fabric of human nature. Do you understand, Eric?
Eric Matthews: You got a chance to do something. Do it right now, John. Just tell me where my son is. I'll help you.
John: I don't need your help, and I can tell you still don't understand. Those who don't appreciate life do not deserve life.
Eric Matthews: My son appreciates his life.
John: But do you appreciate yours? Do you appreciate your son's?
Eric Matthews: [Hits the table] Oh, this is shit! [Stands and walks away]
John: Don't forget the rules. If you want to find your son.
[Eric ignores him and leaves]

Daniel: Amanda, you said you survived this, right?
Amanda: I what?
Daniel: This, guy, whoever's doing it, you said that you've played before and you survived.
Amanda: [Flips over a couch] Yeah.
Daniel: So that means we could survive?
Amanda: Maybe.
Daniel: Amanda, why did he pick you?
Amanda: Because I was a fucking junkie. And the funny thing is, I passed his little test.
Daniel: If you passed his test, then why are you back here?
Amanda: I wasn't being very good to myself.
Daniel: How long have you, um...?
Amanda: I started in jail.
Daniel: What were you arrested for?
Amanda: Possession. [Walks up a staircase]
Daniel: But I thought you said that...
Amanda: Maybe you should talk to the cop who arrested me.

Kerry: Look, I know how this guy works, okay? He's playing a game. Eric just needs to stay in it a little bit longer.
Rigg: [points at the clock which now reads 30:00] Take a look at the clock. You need to start thinking outside the box, or his son is gonna end up in one.

[Eric begins tearing apart and trashing John's files]
John: How will you get your conviction without all this evidence, Eric?
Eric Matthews: I don't need this shit to convict you.
John: So go ahead. Destroy it.
Eric Matthews: I will.
John: Destroy it all. Just know it will not save your son if you do.
Eric Matthews: You kill my son, I kill you.
John: Go ahead. Why wait? We both know the sort of person you are, sir. The sort of person who guns down an unarmed suspect. In fact, the sort of person who plants evidence in order to obtain a conviction. The sort of person whose wife leaves him and his son hates him.
Eric Matthews: SHUT THE FUCK UP!!

Jonas: [laughs] You remind me of me. No matter what kind of fucked-up situation you're in, you always got to find yourself an enemy. You know what? I got enemies, man. Outside these fucking walls, bro. And they're looking for me. And if they don't find me, they're going after the ones closest to me. My family. You understand?
Xavier: No. I don't understand. It's just me, and that's the way I like it. Now, turn around.
Jonas: What?
Xavier: Turn... [Brandishes a knife] ...around.

[Eric awakens, chained in the bathroom from the first movie and discovers a tape. He starts it.]
Tape: [Amanda's Voice] Hello, Eric. You probably don't even remember me, but you changed my life once. You sent me to prison. I was guilty of a lot of things, but not the drug charge you framed me for. You wouldn't know the things you lose when you're locked away. The second time somebody changed my life, I was guilty.
[Flashback]
Tape: Hello, Amanda.
Tape: [Narrating] But my life was saved that day.
Daniel: You said you survived this, right?
Amanda: Yeah.
Tape: [Narrating] I found myself a father. A leader. A teacher.
John: You must meet death... in order to be reborn.
Amanda: He helped me.
[Present]
Tape: What is the cure for cancer, Eric?
[Flashback]
John: Those who don't appreciate life do not deserve life.
Tape: [Narrating] The cure for death itself? The answer... is immortality.
[Present]
[Eric realizes he is chained to a pipe]
Eric Matthews: Daniel!!
Tape: By creating a legacy, by living a life worth remembering, you become immortal. So now you find the tables are turned.
[Flashback]
Kerry: He asked for you!
Eric Matthews: What the fuck do you want?!
John: I told you.
Amanda: He wants us to survive this.
John: I want to play a game.
Amanda: You have to play by the fucking rules!
John: The rules are simple. All you have to do is sit here and talk to me.
Eric Matthews: What?
John: If you can do that long enough, you will find your son in a safe and secure state.
[Kerry finds Daniel in a safe]
Eric Matthews: What the fuck is that?
John: It's your son, Daniel. You remember him, don't you?
Daniel Matthews: My dad's a... he's a real hardass.
Tape: [Previous] I call you unworthy. Of the life that you've been given.
John: The knowledge of your son's impending death is causing to forgive all his sins. Why is that we're only willing to do that when a life is at stake?
Eric Matthews: DANIEL! [To John] I'm done listening to you.
John: Don't forget the rules.
Eric Matthews: SHUT THE FUCK UP!!
Kerry: He's playing a game.
Eric Matthews: I don't want to talk to him. [To John] You're not saying shit!
John: We both know the sort of person you are. Not long to go now until your son is pissing-- [Eric hits him] I'll take you to the house.
Eric Matthews: [In the bathroom, reaching into the bathtub] Daniel?
[A figure in a pig mask injects him with something]
John: There's something I haven't told you, Eric.
[Amanda removes the pig mask]
Tape: [Narrating] It is I who will carry on John's work after he dies...
[Present]
Eric Matthews: DANIEL!
[Flashback]
John: So go ahead. Destroy it.
[Present]
Tape: ... and you...
Eric Matthews: [Reaching for his gun] Daniel!
Tape: ... are my first test subject. Now you are locked away. Helpless...
[Amanda appears in the doorway,]
Tape: ... and alone.
Eric Matthews: You fucking bitch.
Amanda: Game over.
[Amanda locks the door of the bathroom.]
Eric Matthews: I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! YOU FUCKING BITCH! YOU FUCKING BITCH! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! NO! NO! NO! [Screams fade away]
