Catch and Kill [24.01]
edit- Interviewer: How do you feel about the Brooklyn DA's recent decision to prosecute conservative senator Maureen Holt?
- Baxter: I have no comment on that.
- Interviewer: Do you believe the Brooklyn DA used his office to help liberals exact political revenge?
- Baxter: I can only speak for myself and tell you my approach to the job. I do think it's fair to say that the institutions Americans have relied on since this country was founded are under attack from both sides. And when these institutions fray, [eople lose faith. And when people lose faith, the delicate belief system that holds our democracy together crumbles. And that we cannot allow. I intend to protect the reputation and integrity of the Manhattan DA's office with every fiber of my being, focusing on the law and just ignoring the divisive political rhetoric that's so rampant in our society today. My pledge to the people of New York is simple. I will do everything in my power to keep you safe and punish those who commit willful acts of violence to the fullest extent of the law.
The Perfect Man [24.02]
edit- Brady: We have to use every tool available to catch killers, and the database is helpful. It helps us close cases, murder cases, sexual assault cases.
- Captain Olivia Benson: I understand that. But I have fought this fight before, and I think that we can all agree that that database is an ethical mess.
- Brady: That's your opinion.
- Captain Olivia Benson: No, that is a fact. If Laura Kingsbury knew that her DNA was being used in this capacity, who knows what she would have done or not done? And that is the real problem. If word gets out, if women find out that their DNA is being used in some rogue database, they might not come forward. They might not consent to a rape kit.
- Brady: It's not ideal. I agree. But Laura's case is highly unusual. And the majority of sexual assault victims do not end up in the local database.
- Price: These are all valid points, noble arguments, but none of it changes the fact that Laura Kingsbury murdered someone. We have the evidence, and that evidence is legal.
- Captain Olivia Benson: Well, let's see what a judge says about that.
