Last words in Metal Gear series games

Following is a collection of last words spoken by characters in all Metal Gear series games.

Metal Gear Solid

• Why...?
  • Who: DARPA Chief Donald Anderson/Decoy Octopus
  • Note: Character is dying as a result of FOXDIE.

• They... they're just... using you for...
  • Who: Kenneth Baker
  • Note: Character is dying as a result of the FOXDIE virus.

• This is the first time I've ever used my power to help someone. It's strange... it feels... kind of... nice.
• No vibration either?!
• Vibration is back!
  • Who: Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • Note: In the original Japanese script of Metal Gear Solid, Psycho Mantis actually says, "It's strange... it feels... nostalgic." He says the second and third lines in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots after being sent to the grave by The Sorrow; the third being if you use the Dualshock 3 controller.

• I was a fool, I wanted to be a soldier. But war is ugly... There's nothing glamorous about it. Snake, please! Save yourself. Go on living and don't give up on people! Don't forget me... Now get out of here!
  • Who: Meryl Silverburgh
  • Note: Character says this as her last known words, provided Snake gave into Ocelot's electrical torture. Then Meryl is killed off-camera.

• Everyone's here now. Okay hero... set me free.
  • Who: Sniper Wolf
  • Note: Solid Snake defeats Sniper Wolf, and then shoots her in the head at her request; she had been mortally wounded after being shot in the lung.

• The path you walk on has no end. Each step you take is paved with the corpses of your enemies. Their souls will haunt you forever. You shall have no peace. Hear me, Snake! My spirit will be watching you!
  • Who: Vulcan Raven
  • Note: Said before he disappears, seemingly consumed by his ravens.

• Snake... We're not tools of the government... or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing- the only thing- I was good at. But at least I fought for what I believed in. Snake... farewell...
  • Who: Grey Fox
  • Note: Character says this before being crushed by Metal Gear Rex.

• FOX...?
  • Who: Liquid Snake in Metal Gear Solid
  • Note: Liquid is being killed by the FOXDIE virus. Snake completes the name by saying "DIE." to Liquid.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

• The La-li-lu-le-lo! How's that possible!?
  • Who: Scott Dolph
  • Note: Said before getting shot along with Sergei Gurlukovich by Ocelot.

• Olga...
  • Who: Sergei Gurlukovich
  • Note: Character was shot along with Scott Dolph by Ocelot, and left to drown in the sinking tanker.

• But I am. Do it. I know you can.
  • Who: Peter Stillman
  • Note: Character is speaking to the main character, Raiden who doubts his ability to dispose of a C4 bomb. Stillman triggered a proximity mine shortly beforehand. Seconds later, the bomb goes off killing Stillman.

• Laugh and grow fat!
  • Who: Fatman
  • Note: Character speaks a line in reference to his obesity before dying of his wounds from his fight with Raiden.

• You-you tricked me... I understand now. Ocelot, you're-
  • Who: Richard Ames
  • Note: Character was suffering from a heart attack induced by his nanomachines shutting down his pacemaker. He had just realized that he was being used.

• Find Emma... Stop Arsenal. This is my last order -- as your Commander-In-Chief... I'm counting on you!
  • Who: James Johnson
  • Note: Character was shot by Ocelot after revealing information about Arsenal Gear and the Patriots to Raiden.

• Please call me... Emma.
  • Who: Emma Emmerich
  • Note: Character is speaking to Otacon before dying of her wounds from being stabbed by Vamp.

• Live! You have to!
  • Who: Olga Gurlukovich
  • Note: Character is speaking to Raiden before being executed by Solidus.

• My name is Helena Dolph Jackson, the daughter of a proud and noble soldier! I can finally see my family... again.
  • Who: Fortune
  • Note: Shot by Ocelot with his Single Action Army on Arsenal, Ocelot revealed he murdered Fortune's father, Scott Dolph Jackson, about 2 years ago on the Tanker ship.

• Good work, Jack. But this is where it gets interesting!
  • Who: Solidus Snake
  • Note: Said before attacking Raiden, who mortally wounds him and causes him to fall to his presumed death. However, he was merely brain dead, his clinical death occurring years later.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

• The pain... the pain... the pain! The pain!!
  • Who: The Pain
  • Note: As the first of the Cobras to be defeated by Snake, he cries this before his microbomb goes off killing him and his bees.

• The fear! The fear!! I see it! The fear!
  • Who: The Fear

• Spirits of the forest, I thank you. The Boss would be proud of you. The time has come for a younger generation to rise. I've been wondering for more than a century and now my journey comes to a close. What a splendid way... to end it all. I have no regrets. I can return to the forest at last.
  • Who: The End
  • Note: Before finishing this line, The End's dentures come out, making the end of the line slightly distorted.

• Boss... this is the end of the Cobras. You've got to live on. You're the only one left. I'm off, to join The Sorrow. Behold the flames of Fury. The fires of hell will purge me clean. I can see it. Mission Control, do you read me? I'm coming home. I can see the earth! (barely intelligible) FURY!!!
  • Who: The Fury

• Shoot me! You want to finish your mission, don't you? Then... you'll have to shoot me. The spirit of the warrior... will always be with you. Don't be sad... we'll meet again someday.
  • Who: The Sorrow
  • Note: The character was already dead, but faced Snake in a dream-like realm. This line was spoken to The Boss.

• Who's afraid of a little thunder?
  • Who: Colonel Volgin
  • Note: Was said in response to a storm beginning. He was then struck by a bolt of lightning, killing him and destroying the Shagohod in the process.

• There's only room for one Boss... and one Snake...
  • Who: The Boss
  • Note: Shot by Snake with the Patriot gun in the final duel.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

• I shouldn't be laughing. I'm scared. Really scared. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. So sorry I laughed. I'm sorry... I won't laugh anymore. I can't. *laughs* I don't want to.
  • Who: Laughing Octopus
  • Notes: Line is said after shedding her armor, before attacking Snake. Character doesn't actually die, but fighting Snake "cleansed her mind", effectively ending the entity "Laughing Octopus".

• Let me out of this cage. I don't need these wings. I don't need this rage. Come. Let your anger flow.
  • Who: Raging Raven
  • Notes: Line is said after shedding her armor, before attacking Snake. Character doesn't actually die, but fighting Snake "cleansed her mind", effectively ending the entity "Raging Raven".

• You and the beasts are no different... scorched shadows born to the world. When a beast steps into the light... unless the light is put out... the shadows cannot be erased. So long as there is light... there is shadow. To return everything to normal... the light must be extinguished. And when that happens... you... will be... too.
  • Who: Big Mama/EVA
  • Notes: The character had been mortally wounded in an attack by Raging Raven. She then dies as a result of the new FOXDIE virus after this line is said.

• No... I don't need tears anymore. I've cried myself dry. So cry... as much as you like. I... will be there to listen.
  • Who: Crying Wolf
  • Notes: Line is said after shedding her armor, before attacking Snake. Character doesn't actually die, but fighting Snake "cleansed her mind", effectively ending the entity "Crying Wolf".

• I can... die?
  • Who: Vamp
  • Notes: Said after being mortally wounded by Raiden, and having injected himself with a syringe that Naomi said would "return him to his true self".

• Promise... promise me... you'll carry on... our will.
• Snake... the time has come. You've earned your rest. The rose petal is about to fall.
  • Who: Naomi Hunter
  • Notes: The first line is said after having disabled her nanomachines, allowing cancer in her body to kill her. The second is a line delivered in a pre-recorded message after GW and JD are destroyed.

• My head hurts... it hurts! I'm sorry! Have mercy! Let me out of here! I can't breathe! Now... get out of my body. Forgive me. Set me free!
  • Who: Screaming Mantis
  • Notes: Line is said after shedding her armor, before attacking Snake. Character doesn't actually die, but fighting Snake "cleansed her mind", effectively ending the entity "Screaming Mantis".

• I am Liquid's doppelganger. And you are his. Just... like your father... you're pretty good.
  • Who: Revolver Ocelot/Liquid Ocelot
  • Note: Character is dying as a result of the new FOXDIE virus. "You're pretty good" was a recurring line his, usually said after a fight.

• This is good... isn't it?
  • Who: Big Boss
  • Note: The character had been believed dead at the end of Metal Gear 2. He survived, however, and had his body repaired using parts from his dead clone sons, Liquid and Solidus. He reveals himself to Solid Snake at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4, making peace with him before euthanizing Major Zero and then succumbing to the new strain of FOXDIE.

• Otacon...
  • Who: Solid Snake
  • Note: While not the character's final lines, he knew he was dying, and did so sometime after the game ended. The line is said when Otacon offers to stay with Snake until the end.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

• Raiden... Forget me. Stop him!
  • Who: President N'mani
  • Note: N'mani is talking about Sundowner, who has him shackled on a train.

• I lost...So this is how they felt...dying...for a cause...I am sorry. He was...too much...But I know...you will never fall...Je t'aime... de tout mon coeur.
  • Who: Mistral
  • Note: As Mistral is dying, she confesses her love to someone unknown (presumably Armstrong.)

• Why would I surrender? We are exactly where I want! Built with Russia money, to make Russia money! It is no plant for Abkhaz - it is their prison! But now... They will be FREE!
  • Who: Andrey Dolzaev
  • Note: Refusing to be taken by Raiden, and deciding to ensure that Abkhazia is free rather than allow them to have a Russian-made plant, Dolzaev kills himself by blowing up a plant core with himself on top of it.
• No. I passed one... to you... sure as the sun... will rise... the slaughter... will continue... now I return... to the Earth... the wind blows, rain falls... the strong... prey... on the weak... all... is as it should... be...
  • Who: Monsoon
  • Note: Before Monsoon succumbs to his wounds, Raiden tells him that "(his) memes end here."

• *chuckle* Asshole. *cough*. He's good...real good. You knew this would happen, didn't ya. Well, you'll get your wish... Up to you now...Sam.
  • Who: Sundowner
  • Note: Before dying completely, Sundowner makes a call to Samuel Rodrigues, who makes a sarcastic joke at his expense.

• This ends here.
  • Who: Samuel Rodrigues
  • Note: The battle ends with a cross-blade struggle between Raiden and Sam, in which Raiden manages to knock Sam's sword away, before stabbing him clean in the abdomen. Sam falls to the ground, examines his bloodied hand, chuckling, and winks to Blade Wolf, before succumbing to his wounds with a smile on his face.

• Deep inside we're...kindred spirits...you...and I...
  • Who: Steven Armstrong
  • Note: After fatally injuring Armstrong, Raiden grasps his nano-infused heart, and crushes it in his hand. Armstrong, who has spent the fight trying to convince Raiden to join him, now instead leaves him as a successor.
