Heavenly Puss

Heavenly Puss is a 1949 one-reel animated cartoon and is the 42nd Tom and Jerry short, created in 1948, and released to theaters on July 9, 1949 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It was directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, and produced by Fred Quimby. The cartoon's music was composed by Scott Bradley and the animation was credited to Ray Patterson, Irven Spence, Kenneth Muse and Ed Barge.

Dialogue

Conductor: Name, Butch. [A bandaged up Butch nods his head] Cause of decease, lost fight with bulldog. [Butch nods his head] Pass granted.

[As Butch walks away, the conductor notices his tail carrying the dog's teeth following him. Frankie then appears in front of him]

Conductor: Frankie. [Frankie nods his head] Stuck with a flat iron while singing on a backyard fence. [Frankie takes off his hat and shows the conductor a bump on his head] Pass.

[Frankie walks away as another cat similar to Topsy appears flattened]

Conductor: Aloysius. Hmm, so you didn't see the steam roller coming, huh? [Aloysius shakes his head] Go ahead. Fluff, Muff and Puff.

[As he calls out their names, a wet bag appears and the three kittens appear, meowing happily as he lets them pass]

Conductor [clicks his tongue and shakes his head] What some people won't do.

[The conductor catches Tom from trying to sneak past him]

Conductor: Thomas. Just a minute.

[Tom stands in line as the conductor looks through his biography. He is disappointed when he learns that Tom's death wasn't attributed from the accidental crushing of the piano. While he was still alive, Tom spent it by persecuting Jerry an innocent little mouse and not on other things a cat should be doing]

Conductor: Hmm, apparently, your whole life was spent persecuting an innocent little mouse. With a record like that, I can't let you through. I'm sorry, Tom. However, the Heavenly Express doesn't leave for an hour. [hands Tom a certificate of forgiveness] If, within that time, you can obtain the signature of that little mouse on this certificate of forgiveness, you will be permitted to pass. But if you fail, it's this...

[The conductor pushes a button, a television screen turns on, showing an image of hell, and in it, Spike is personified as the devil, to Tom's alarm]

Devil Dog: [after a diabolical laugh] Let me have him! Send him down! Give him to me now!

Conductor: Remember, you have only an hour.

[Tom comes back to life, thinking it was a dream, until he realizes that it was real when he sees he is holding a certificate of forgiveness that Jerry has to sign, and looks at the golden clock]

Conductor’s voice: Hurry, Tom! Hurry!
