Comments edit

(moved from Wikiquote Talk:Blocking policy)

  • Vandalism changes look good.
  • modify?: or recommend shorter duration here? [1].
    • Perhaps just remove "encouraged".
  • Disruption changes look good.
  • comment: now we have a public contact. "e-mail another administrator" might not be the best way?
    • I think we could keep that, but put an "or e-mail volunteers at info...."
  • All in all, nice changes, as always. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 03:02, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

  1. Major vandalism (page move, obscenity, racism possibly others) must, in my opinion, result in infinite bans on registered users.
  2. Repeat vandalism from IPs (or IPs that are the source of user name vandalism) should be blockable to say 6 months
  3. Open proxies should not be blocked infinitely in my opinion (although please note that this is common across foundation wikis). Given the changeable nature of the internet I no longer see blocks of more than a year on an IP address as appropriate (however see next point)
  4. I love the elastic clause - I'm not sure how it would/should stand up as policy!

My thoughts & good work thanks Aphaia --Herby talk thyme 12:39, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your comments, guys. I tried to include your suggestions and modified the draft (diff. Updates are found at four sections: Abstract, Vandalism, Anonymous and open proxies and Elastic clause. Your review and further comments will be appreciated. --Aphaia 21:11, 26 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I support the draft.--Jusjih 12:09, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why are open proxies any worse than Internet cafés? Both are IPs that anyone can use. I can see no reason to block them for longer.--Cato 21:27, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Point taken, but open proxies are completely anonymous. Internet cafes are not in some cases. In Japan, without ID, you cannot use some Internet cafes. Moreover, internet cafes are run by someone who we can access (sometimes they even have their own domain and publish the contact). Open proxies not. Remind AOL proxy which issues XFF and the provider knows who used a certain IP address in a certain moment, and we don't treat them as open proxies. Also we treat zombie machines as open proxies in convention: it suggests if there is a consensus, Internet cafes could be considered a similar thing to open proxies, I guess. But I am not sure if this kind of information has to be on this document. Better in a document about open proxy and our policy to it, say, on meta? --Aphaia 04:37, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Request for Endorsement edit

Since I think this draft frozen enough to ask for community approval, I'm requesting for endorsement from English Wikiquote community. This request opens at least one week, and three endorsements with no objection will be considered as a communal support.

If you think this draft is okay to be a new replacement with the current [1], please put your endorsement on this talk page. Thanks! --Aphaia 17:04, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your considerations and comments, all the party who've taken care of it. Since its opening, the revision proposed has received five supports and no opposition. Now the call for endorsements closed successfully and the draft is approved. We'll adopt it as our official policy. Again, thanks! --07:34, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
