Washington (state)

Washington, officially the State of Washington, is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the Western United States. In 2018, Washington ranked 13th overall in population, and was the third most populous, after California and Texas, west of the Mississippi River. The state capital is Olympia and the largest city is Seattle. It borders Oregon, Idaho, and the Canadian province of British Columbia.
The state was formed from part of the Oregon Country disputed between the United States and the British Empire until 1846. It was granted statehood in 1889. Its state government is currently controlled by the Democratic Party, and its current governor is Jay Inslee.
