Dialogue edit

Bejo: [Speaking to a rival's henchman due to be executed] It's all about a question of ambition really. No, let me rephrase that. It's a matter of limitations. And you're supposed to know the importance of knowing yours. Your boss, Tama. Sure, he had a reputation to uphold, yes. But at least he also knew where he stood, understood how high he should climb. That's why Bangun let him have the authority, be the man he was [Captive glances nervously at Bejo's subordinates] Don't mind them. I'm a very reasonable man. Like you, I have ambitions. But you see, in this world of ours, but we have to take every step forward, and you're supposed to have a long way to go, just to be here with me (it's really more of a "one step at a time" kind of thing. And you should have been some fucking steps away from a meeting like this).
Captive: Bangun will--
Bejo: Bangun is an old man! [Chokes on his spit and then gathers himself] He's on his way out. I gave you a chance. You chose him instead. So... I guess this brings us back full circle, ambition... and limitation.
Captive: Bejo. Bejo! Please don't do this. I already told you.
Bejo Don't worry.
Captive: No, no! Don't, Bejo, wait! [Captive is executed with a shotgun]

Bunawar: Rama listen. Do enough to get inside, but not enough to keep you there for good.
Rama: Where is he?
...
[Scene of a vastly elaborate social club]
Hotshot: Exactly as I said man, this is the guy I was telling you about. Yuda, met him out on the sticks on that thing with Kang Epy.
Counterpart: Explain to me again why I need a fucking farmboy?
Hotshot: Seriously, you gotta see this kid in action. No bullshit, he's got some crazy mad skills. When it all kicked off, he got me out. And check this shit out! See that? [Points to scar on Rama's face] Kid took a fucking machete to the face for me. His is all fucked up, mine is as miserable as ever.
Counterpart: You talk at all or just stare?! You know I got no time for starers.
Rama: I'm not a fucking farmboy. All bullshit aside, I need the work. I'm a fast learner. I can learn the streets. I just need a chance. You stick a hand out for me, I'll always remember it. But cross me, you won't last long enough for either of us to forget.
Counterpart: He always threatens his way through interviews?
Hotshot: Nah, it ain't like that, you got it all wrong. [To Rama] What the fuck is wrong with you?! Chill the fuck out!
Counterpart: Fuck it, he's waiting upstairs.
Hotshot: Let's go [They all get up walking across room, then up stairs and Rama shoulder bumps a contact]
Rama: And?!
Contact: Remember his face. Cut it twice before he leaves. Ok.
Rama: What the fuck you say?
[Hotshot gets ahold of Rama]
Hotshot: Leave it. He can say whatever the fuck he wants, you can't fuck around with him. [Hotshot starts walking up stairs but Rama still stares at the two walking away and the hotshot walks back down and gets ahold of Rama again] Come on. Forget about him, this is more important. [They start walking again]
Pimp: I'm sick and tired of this shit. [Slaps hooker's head] You do what they tell you. Fucking useless. [Hotshot brings Rama to a room]
Hotshot: Boss! They're here! Mr. Fauzan! Good to see you! You lost weight again Fauzan, right? Get a drink.
Fauzan: Sure, sure, sure.
Hotshot: Pour a drink for me. Let me introduce you first, this is Yuda.
Fauzan: Oh yeah.
Hotshot: Yeah, fucking crazy guy this one. [Rama kicks a karaoke singer, pushes the hotshot and walks away, wrapping a string around a right hand]
Pimp: This is your last fucking warning again bitch. [Rama kicks the pimp sending him flying leg up onto a couch, then Rama takes the hookers hand and takes her away, then walks up to four men at a table, then whips one man in the face, slams one man's face into the table, punches one and smashes a bottle in another and then starts a whipping frenzy on the first man]
...
Prison warden: You won't last long. You should walk carefully back to your cell. Knowing his connections, I'd say it's your last time to walk back to your cell... without a limp. Be careful.

Bunawar: [Speaking to Rama] Rama, your brother had big enemies. But they're nothing compared to what's coming for you. I can provide safety for your wife and child. We can keep them out of reach. But I need you. Right now, this city is carved up between our local kingpin, Bangun, and the Goto family from Japan. Tama's job is to bribe everyone. And the police are being bribed at his office so no one knows. If we get you close enough to Bangun, then sure as fuck we can weed out the rest of those crooked bastards. Rama, for this to end, I need those names.

[Uco sits down at table across from Rama in prison mess hall]
Uco: I believe Benny and his boys introduced themselves yesterday?
Rama: Which one is Benny?
Uco: Him. [Motions head to goon with bandaged nose] Now, while I'm in here, Benny and his associates are with me.
Rama: Oh, yeah? And who are you?
Uco: You'll figure that out at some point. And when you do, maybe you'll show me a little more fucking respect. But for now, I'll be tolerant.
Rama: So, what does that mean? Want me to apologize?
Uco: This? [Holds up knife] This is my "just in case". There's never enough walls to cover your back. Even you. Especially after your little "display". I'm someone who can put walls up. I can cover your back in any square inch of this place. You may not know who I am now. But when you do, you'll realize how real my offer is. Join with us... and own this wing with me. We could use someone like fighting on our side.
Rama: I'm flattered but-
Uco: Just so you know, I hate rejections.
Rama: With all due respect, I don't really like spending my time acting tough in toilets. Excuse me. [Gets up from table]
Uco: Listen... in here, you'd be wise to pick a side. Loners don't tend to last long.
Rama: Clearly. [Walks away]

Mafia informer: [Referring to Rama] His name's Yuda. He's from the sticks. He's a nobody.
Uco: Well, that "nobody" took out 15 of my guys.

[Rama is forced to strip for Bangun]
Bangun: Shh. Listen. It's not that I don't trust you. I just don't trust anybody. If the worse that happens during your time with us is that you suffer the indignity of an old man seeing your cock, then I'd say you got off light.

Topan: It's all there in the envelope.
Uco: This isn't enough.
Topan: Not enough? But I counted it myself. It's exact.
Uco: Oh, yeah. Go back a month and you're right. Just like always. But this month, you're short $5000. Take a seat.
[Two silhouette figures of a curtain are of a woman pegging a man with a strap-on dildo]
Woman: Motherfucker, stop shaking around!
Man: It's too big!
[Woman whips open curtain and starts walking over to a fridge to get a drink]
Woman: Fuck this shit, where did you find this guy?!
Topan: Hitchhiker!
Woman: Hitchhiker?! Fuck, come on! How do you expect me to work like this?! [Gets her drink and walks back] Seriously, sort it the fuck out! Let's shoot this thing, you fucking loser!
Topan: Get on with it! Camera, rolling, shooting! Just fuck that guy's asshole you stupid bitch! [Turns attention to Uco] Sorry. I don't understand, you're kidding right?
Uco: For 20 years, my father has ensured that not one cop has ever knocked on your door. Now you've been free to operate on our turf and we've worked together peacefully throughout. But these payments in these envelopes. They only cover you for cock and cum. They don't allow for any expansions. I'm hearing rumblings, Topan. People are talking. Seems that you and your boys here are responsible for some powder circulating in my father's territory.
Topan: No, that? That's just--
Uco: You don't have to explain anything. We already know everything. Now, taking into account this new enterprise of yours and the fact you sure as hell don't want some pig's knuckles rapping at your door, the price just went up. All you have to do is dig just a little bit deeper. Then we can forgive you this minor indiscretion. Now if you would be so kind, this envelope, it's still a little light. [Uco throws Topan's payment package across the table while Rama has realized that a Topan's thug is reaching for a shotgun, kicks him and sets off a vicious firefight wiping out everyone in the room]

[Rama is offered a drink by good time girls but turns it down]
Uco: Fuck, you don't drink, you won't sing. You should have told me earlier. We could be at a titty bar hooking up with Uzbeki girls instead of sweating in here. They only have cheap skanks.
Good time girl: Hey, who the fuck are you calling skanks? I'm better than you, and you should know that already.
...
[Good time girl reaching for the help button]
Uco: Don't fucking touch that! Don't you fucking dare! This is the problem with this country. Everyone promises everything. Everything's yes, yes, yes! But when the time comes to collect, it all changes. "Oh, I'm sorry, I can't. No, no."

Bejo: Now we've eaten well, drank good wine, there's one thing that you should know about me. If I'm the type of person who likes to impose my will, I would've already pointed a gun at your head. But no, that's not me. Not today at least. Today I'm offering you a gift. An opportunity. Something that has never been given to you by your father. Please. [Five former prison inmates are dragged out for Uco to execute] Those prison gates opened and not one person from your group was there to pick them up. I was surprised. Imagine how surprised they were when they found out I picked them up and brought them here for you. That's my gift. I give you the opportunity... to claim revenge. [Hands Uco a boxcutter knife and when Uco executes the last one, a muscular man who seems more braver than the rest, Uco notices a distinctive tattoo, later realising the man is Bejo's competition for mafia boss and that Uco was tricked into doing Bejo's dirty work for him]
...
Bejo: It's easy to sway a cop or a politician with a little cash and a lot of pussy.

Prakoso: But I haven't seen him since he was--
Dwi: Yeah, and whose choice was that? Yours, right? You're the one who chose to do what you do.
Prakoso: To support you.
Dwi: There are millions of fathers in the world supporting their families. Only they don't come home with blood on their hands. Do you even realize that what you do is so fucking disgusting?
Prakoso: I'm not a smart man.
Dwi: No, you're not. But you used to be a good person.
Prakoso: That means that I still have the right to see my son, right?
Dwi: That's the thing, you don't. Not like this. And I don't want to hear anymore about you wanting to change. Because it's been 15 years already, and I barely recognize you anymore. I'm sorry, I have to go.
...
[Uco and Prakoso are at a nightclub with foreigners]
Uco: Crazy. Seems anyone can get in here these days. Way back this place had class. But now you see white guys walking around in sandals drinking beer and fucking cheap skanks in the toilets like fucking animals. It's a fucking disgrace. Everything has to be restarted from the beginning. Starting from us. Like it was before. Back then, if my father turned up, the room would freeze. They'd fear him because they knew he could do anything. Times change.
Prakoso: They may not fear him like they used to, but your father hasn't lost that fire in his stomach. He just learned how to control it. They respect him now. He doesn't need fear anymore. He has their respect and that's what counts the most.
Uco: It used to count. Used to. Not anymore. Times change faster than you think. We got people now who don't give a shit about back then. They only care about now. Respect? That doesn't mean shit to them.
Prakoso: That ain't new. We faced punks like that more times than I care to remember. Trust me, they don't last. And when it's your turn to take the reins, you'll see for yourself. They'll burn and fall in front of you just like they did for your father. That same fire is in you. I've seen it ever since you were a child. Don't ever lose it. Learn to control it. If you do, one day you'll become as great as your father.
Uco: 'Koso, you've always been a good friend to us.
Prakoso: Your father has always taken good care of me. To family. [They toast]
Uco: I'll be right back, gotta piss. [The club is suddenly deserted and a mob of thugs swarm Prakoso, eventually finishing him off]

Uco: Sir, we have ruled this territory for over 30 years!
Bangun: And my decision on this will see us through 30 more!
...
Uco: Sir, with all due respect, but the man you're talking about was like a brother to my father and uncle to me. A man of loyalty to our family for over 30 years. If you speak ill of him again, I swear to God--
Bangun: Enough! Only a fool argues for the pride of a dead man.

Rama: Pull me out now.
Bunawar: I'm afraid I can't do that.
Rama: What do you mean, you can't? What have I not witnessed? Murder, extortion, bribery? Corruption.
Bunawar: You were never investigating Bangun, you knew that. We want the cops they pay. You think you're alone in this? This isn't your show. None of us are heroes. We're all caught in a big fucking web.

[Mature man speaking to a young man with pack of hitmen walking to a gunfight]
Mature man: Don't be afraid. Once it begins, it only lasts a few seconds. Don't overthink it, rely on your instincts and you'll be fine.
Young man: How do you know?
Mature man: Fucking instincts/Because we're having this conversation.
[The hitmen pack meet a rival hitmen pack in a stairwell and viciously wipe each other out except the young man who barely survives only to be finished off by a wounded policeman]

Bangun: [After beating up Uco] Do you realize how many men we lost just to play your fucking game? Huh? Everything I've built was for you. Everything was for you! And you brought it to the ground. You destroyed it completely.

Goto: We go to war! If he pulled a trigger on his own father, he won't hesitate to come for us. We start over. I want Uco and Bejo in the ground by tonight. Reza and the rest of those crooks too.
Goto subordinate: Wait a minute, you can't be serious.
Goto: They're not cops anymore. They're in my world now.

Rama: [Facing a mob of Goto's men] No, I'm done.
