Talk:William Ernest Henley
someone
editThe whole article is a mess. Unrelated pictures are captioned with excerpts from poems, the markup is nonsensical and inconsistent! I hope someone who is able to will clean this up! 88.69.134.225 13:32, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Friends.. Old Friends... - what are the correct last two lines?
editI have added a section of a larger piece of verse, "Friends.. Old Friends..." to the page.
I have typed it as it appears in a printed text I found on Google. But the last two lines don't make sense:
What is it ends
With friends?
I suspect the original might have been "What if it ends / with friends?" - (a handwritten f can look like an s) - but I have had to adhere to the version I found as I can't insert an improvement.
If someone has the time to spare, they might like to try to track down copies of this poem printed elsewhere, to see if there is a different version of the last two lines which suggests a typo was inadvertently incorporated in the version I found.

Pictures
editI have substituted a drawing of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as the second picture on the page (replacing a "skull" picture). This hospital is where Lister treated Henley over a long period. This same building is illustrated on the cover of A Book of Verses (1888).
