The ‘Need ammo, not a ride’ quote sure is great, but is it really his? edit

See this Washington Post "Fact Checker" Analysis: Zelensky’s famous quote of ‘need ammo, not a ride’ not easily confirmed --Wikipetzi (talk) 01:48, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes, and that article says that originally the quote was reported by a single but well-respected source, then subsequently confirmed by official Ukrainian agencies. After the official confirmation, news sources that had initially been reluctant to cite the quote began to do so. HouseOfChange (talk) 01:16, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Quotes about section: Serious neutrality issues edit

I've noticed that the "Quotes about" section has frequently been used in the past month to push an anti-NATO/pro-Russian viewpoint, in extreme cases up to conspiracy theories, with quotes that, at best, have a very minimal relation to the subject of this article. I went ahead and boldly deleted this section for now, and I'm hoping that we could discuss the types of quotes that would be better for a new section -- or, given the current sensitivity surrounding the Russian invasion and its associated disinformation efforts, whether it's better to not have one at all.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. --Dialh (talk) 04:50, 30 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Dialh: People have been discussing exactly the same problem at Talk:2021–2022 Russo-Ukrainian crisis‎ and I saw the same thing at Ukraine. It seems like a very big problem here in Wikiquote and I am not sure why it has been allowed to grow so big over time. Time for some pushback. I'm not sure how to proceed, but one thing I did on the other article was to remove a lot of fringe websites quoting non-notable people. I am new here, so I am hesitant about doing too much. @HouseOfChange, I agree with you whole-heartedly. Admittedly, I am also new to Wikiquote, but I felt that the harm caused by keeping misinformation on Wikiquote is larger than the potential consequences of doing too much. Perhaps we could bring in @Kalki as well, to get their perspective on this issue because they've been a big contributor to the article.
(Off-topic here, but I'd like to try to get some Servant of the People quotes in the article, but that will have to wait until I can be bothered to subscribe to Netflix.) Dialh (talk) 23:38, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

"Quotes About" section: should we have one? edit

There is a problem with having a "Quotes About" section here, identified by Dialh when he removed the section on 30 March, with edit summary "Removing a biased "Quotes about" section. At this point, I'm unwilling to allow one here, due to the sensitivity of the current Russian invasion and the necessity of accurate information. Meet me in the talk page."

If we are going to have a quote section, it should be "notable quotable" quotes -- notable people expressing an opinion one way or the other, not rambling lists of his alleged crimes or virtues. What do others think? HouseOfChange (talk) 15:58, 29 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
