Removing quotes edit

User Vpsilon removed a few quotes, which he noted in his log was, 'to keep the number of quotes constant'. Is this a general wikiquote editing guideline? Why is this important? It strikes me that wikiquote here has a reasonable expectation to provide a compendium of quotes here, so long as that list is not particularly long. As the current summary is only a bit over a page, removing quotes seems too harsh at this time. Either way, this page has only 12 quotes, while portal has 15, so adding 3 more would at least be consistent. Nicholas.malaya

It's a copyright issue, that we have to limit the number of quotes. The advice is that to use the most quotable dialogue, which, in the case of Portal 2, would be the funnier quotes. Sceptre (talk) 15:41, 1 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sceptre, why did you revert all my 20 changes just now? I have been careful to keep the number of quotes constant (in accordance with copyright), and I have commented all my changes (in case someone disagreed with them). Your "minor" change reverting all my work contains no comment at all, and your statements here are not indicative of any disagreement. – Vpsilon 22:19, 1 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
I am not getting any reply from Sceptre on why he deleted all my changes, so I am restoring the version of 08:55, 1 May 2011, right before Nicholas.malaya added a Cave Johnson quote. Nicholas, feel free to re-add that quote, but please delete a quote as well to prevent copyright violation. I suggest adding and deleting in two separate steps so that it's clear to everyone which quote is traded for which. – Vpsilon 10:05, 3 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
As to the quotes: I don't see what's so quotable about, for example, the "air" quote. Or the fat joke from the test chambers (indeed, GLaDOS makes many of them). Likewise, the Cave Johnson quotes are good, but again, those aren't as quotable (read: funny) as the previous ones. It's a matter of preference, really; I don't see how the Space Core is so "quotable", and we could replace Wheatley's soliloquy with another Cave quote, or the Schrodinger's cat quote from the Fact Sphere. I agree, humor is subjective. However, we could try to use Google results as a guideline for determining which lines are more quoteworthy, that is, which quotes humor the largest number of people. Also, this reddit discussion is useful since people vote on their favorite quotes (the Space Core gets quite a high score). Anyhow, the current revision is a good compromise between your favorites and my favorites, and we should welcome others to add their favorite quotes as long as they honor the rule of keeping the total number of quotes constant. A mixture of opinions is more objective than a single opinion. – Vpsilon 11:32, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Google results are not synonymous with popularity, and popularity is not synonymous with quotability either. The Space Core, funny as he is, doesn't really have that many funny quotes. The fact his lines all run on the theme "lol, space is funny", it doesn't really help differentiate one quote from the other. Even the Adventure Core has better lines.
