The founded on Christianity quote is disputed?Edit

I don't understand how this quote can be disputed. It simply doesn't appear anywhere in the writings of Patrick Henry and in all likelihood was made up for political purposes. [1]

I agree with this assessment and have changed the section heading from "disputed" to "misattributed" — the assessment at of November 2006 which you provide had not previously been available, when I labeled it as disputed in March of 2006. ~ Kalki 14:53, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

"The Constitution is not an instrument" quote is fakeEdit

I does not appear in Henry's writings that I can find. More tellingly it does not show up in Google Books until 1994, despite the hundreds of books by and about Henry and the politics of the period. It should be moved to "misattributed." LarryCebula writes "This quote may, in fact, be authentic to Patrick Henry in that it is cited in the HANDBOOK of AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONAL LAW by Henry Campbell Black, LL. D. Fourth Edition; West Publishing Company. 1927" I downloaded the PDF, and this document, whatever it is, does indeed quote from Black's Handbook; the section with the alleged Henry quotation, however, must have been written much later than 1927 as it refers to "the Constitutions of the 50 states", an anachronism in that there were only 48 states in 1927. (Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959.) Further it gives no source for the alleged Henry quotation. I am therefore reverting the page. Sbh (talk) 07:16, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

As a quick follow-up let me note that the document cited by appears to be an excerpt from the "Constitutions" page of the website The earliest appearance of this page at the Internet Archive is from February 2003 ( Thus this appearance of the alleged Henry quotation is no earlier than any of those previously known.
