talking pictures are just a fad
editFound no primary source, but the quote apparently goes “Novelty is always welcome, but talking pictures are just a fad.”
- Context: "When Warner Brothers shocked the film world with the announcement of The Jazz Singer (1927), the first feature film with sound, a reporter sought out Irving Thalberg on his honeymoon for comment. "Novelty is always welcome," opined the all-powerful production chief of MGM, "but talking pictures are just a fad."
