These quotes should be resorted in chronological order, as they appear in the book, with chapters at least (and page numbers would be nice too) - rather than the way it is sorted now by character. ~ UDScott 20:24, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd rather revert to my version from ten days ago and politely ask editors to put them in chronological order - but that's unconstructive and I've been (slightly) admonished for it before. Will {talk) 06:57, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
This is my first attempt to work on Wikiquotes but it seems like there is a lot of material here. I have been trying to find the chapter and page numbers and it occurs to me that it could be a much easier job after someone reviews it for copyright. I think many of these quotes may be eliminated.Template:Copyright checkCarmaskid 06:10, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I started rearranging these quotes in the preferred format tonight. I wish someone more experienced would look at this and see if I'm doing it correctly. .Template:Copyright check Carmaskid 03:32, 7 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I deleted some material tonight and sourced some quotes. Someone had put in the following: "For the person deliberately changing the pages to contain errors. Such a pathetic Mary Sue you are. Hopefully you get killed in an Islamic suicide bombing, it will do the world good." which I removed as inappropriate. This is such a long document that I think it should be separated by chapters. A little more weaning and organizing tonight. Carmaskid 01:45, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I added chapter names and moved some quotes to the proper chapters Carmaskid 03:10, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

The process of weaning and sorting continues. I still think the majority of these quotes are less than notable but I hesitate to wield the deletion button with too heavy a hand. Carmaskid 03:48, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I waited a year. I see that others have made changes during that time without writing anything here. Tonight I went through every quote again to confirm they had the correct page numbers. The prankster who thought it was funny to change them should be barred from editing. I also moved a few items to their proper spots and began cutting out items I feel are not particularly valuable quotes from Ron, Fred, Molly and Percy Weasley, the "Dialogue" and "Last Words" sections. I believe that my work with this article is pretty much finished. There are currently about 170 lines of quotes and the copyright guidleine was about 390 lines, so I think that part is fine, now...only 6 more books in this series. :-) Carmaskid 04:22, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
It looks much better, thanks. May I suggest combining page reference and context/character note on a single line, with a full stop (period) after the page number? It might make the page look less stretched out. ~ Ningauble 14:42, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
If that's the correct layout, and you wish to take the time to revise again, that's up to you. When I first started this revision it was my first project for Wikiquotes. I did read the layout guidelines before I started. I also asked an administrator to check my first revisions to determine if I was doing it correctly. I was told that I was doing it right. If there was a problem, I wish someone would have said something earlier. It's more than a little bit discouraging to have spent 15 months and to have finished a 759 page book, to find out, now, that the format is still incorrect. I had intended to do all the Harry Potter books and started on another one tonight. If I decide to continue it would be helpful to know the answer to this before I do any more work. The separate bullets lines are not wrong, I just suggested combining them because I thought it might look better. The amount of "white space" is only a matter of taste. You did a fine job reorganizing the content. ~ Ningauble 13:57, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I tend to agree with you about the appearance, but for the present I believe I will continue on as I have been doing. I think there is some value to presenting the information for all 7 books in the same way, and that my time would be better spent fixing one of the pages that have not, yet been tackled at all.Carmaskid 04:15, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

From Lord Voldemort (converted to redirect):

  • Harry Potter was nothing ever but a boy who hid behind the skirts of greater wizards and witches than himself
    • I can't find this line and I think it it is a paraphrase of the following two lines tht I have added to the proper chapter: Chapter 36, Pg. 730 says "He was nothing, ever, but a boy who relied on others to sacrifice themselves for him!" On Pg 738 is the line, "Accident and chance and the fact that you crouched and sniveled behind the skirts of greater men and women, and permitted me to kill them for you!" Chapter 18: The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore edit

I think the following, which comprises more than a page from Chapter 18, pages 361-362 goes beyond the limits of a quote. I would appreciate some suggestions about ways to break it up and select the most valuable quote(s) for re-entry in the text.

  • [Hermione says] "Harry, I'm sorry, but I think the real reason you're so angry is that Dumbledore never told you any of this himself."
"Maybe I am!" Harry bellowed, and he flung his arms over his head, hardly knowing whether he was trying to hold in his anger or protect himself from his own disillusionment. "Look what he asked from me, Hermione! Risk your life, Harry! And again! And again! And don't expect me to explain everything, just trust me blindly, trust that I know what I'm doing, trust me even though I don't trust you! Never the whole truth! Never!"
His voice cracked with the strain, and they stood looking at each other in the whiteness and the emptiness, and Harry felt they were as insignificant as insects beneath that wide sky.
"He loved you," Hermione whispered. "I know he loved you."
Harry dropped his arms. "I don't know who he loved, Hermione, but it was never me. This isn't love, the mess he's left me in. He shared a damn sight more of what he was really thinking with Gellert Grindelwald than he ever shared with me."
Harry picked up Hermione's wand, which he had dropped in the snow, and sat back down in the entrance of the tent.
"Thanks for the tea. I'll finish the watch. You get back in the warm."
She hesitated, but recognised the dismissal. She picked up the book and then walked back past him into the tent, but as she did so, she brushed the top of his head lightly with her hand. He closed his eyes at her touch, and hated himself for wishing that what she said was true: that Dumbledore had really cared.
