Talk:Douglas Bader
There is a picture circulating that appears to be a letter to a newspaper on the 35th anniversary of his death that purports to quote a speech he gave to a girls school. Supposedly Bader is telling a story about a battle where he appears to be saying "fuckers" in reference to the enemy planes, and the headmistress chimes in to tell the girls that a Fokker was a German plane. According to the story Bader responded that while that is true, "These fuckers were in Messerschmitts". Aside from dubious propriety even for Bader, 35 years after he died would be 2007 and by then I don't think papers existed anymore.
Harry Day was I believe not a Royal Flying Corps WW1 Flying Ace - he spent the First World War as a Royal Marine 2nd Lieutenant then moved to the Fleet Air Arm as a Flying Officer in 1924. Commissioned as a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF in 1930. Amazing man but NOT in the Royal Flying Corps and definitely not a pilot during the First World War.
