Cleanup needed after merge

edit

This article needs some cleanup after the merge I just performed, but I have never seen this movie (and don't want to), so I must leave it to those who care about it. First, I removed a number of links to Wikipedia to non-existent articles and fixed two that gave misleading information. One should always check each and every new or corrected link before saving any edit.

Also, there were several dialog sections in UDScott's version whose chronological order I could not determine, so I put them at the end of the dialog section. (This assumes that the dialog was arranged in chrono order in the first place, which I don't know.) I also assumed, in general, that when two sections of the same dialog conflicted, the text with the most "ums" and "urs" was more likely to be accurate, but this is no substitute for true accuracy.

Finally, some of the dialog I read while merging sounded rather inane, and I suspect it was included because it meant something to the plot. I'd like to advise editors that Wikiquote dialog quotes are not meant to feature plot highlights unless they are pithy in and of themselves. Just as Wikiquote can never expect to have as complete as collection of people quotes as a fan site dedicated to that person, we don't try to tell the story of a film through its dialog. Our primary interest is in quotes that we expect folks to want to repeat and pass on. Long tracts of dialog are usually an indication of someone trying to re-tell the story, and should be reviewed for possible trimming or deletion. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 22:21, 18 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup in progress

edit

I removed a section of dialogue that I presume is from the 1978 film (none of the listed characters appears in the remake). Also deleted or trimmed down a number of quotes that were meaningless except as related to the film's plot; luckily (?) most of the offending material was contributed by me, so I didn't have to worry about offending anyone. Merged quotes have been placed in chronological order.

The quotes for CJ and other individual characters presented more of a problem. Most of them appear under the "Quotes" heading, but I didn't want to casually delete the efforts of another contributor. Finally opted to make some minor corrections, delete one CJ quote (a shouted 1-word profanity), and leave the rest alone.
