Talk:Aeschylus

I'm confused by the "die on your feet...live on your knees" line being called a misattribution when attributed to Aeschylus.

Here's from the Robert Fagles translation of Agamemnon, line 1384:

"Never, better to die on your feet than live on your knees."

So not only is Wikiquote incorrect in calling this a misattribution, it also lists the source of the misattributed/mistranslated line as Prometheus Bound. Which is wrong. unsigned 07:55, 18 February 2007‎ 71.115.16.212

The line "The meaning I picked, the one that changed my life: Overcome fear, behold wonder." is commonly attributed to Richard Bach. unsigned 23:17, 29 October 2011‎ 101.170.211.101

As quoted in Voices from Earth (2004) by James Randall Miller books.google is indeed no sufficient source. The "quote" should be deleted. --Vsop.de (talk) 09:08, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Truth: first casualty of war

edit

Snowden 1916 is the oldest I could find, followed by William Trufant Foster, President of Reed College, at the national convention of teachers 1917: for "truth is the first casualty of war." The nature of the assault upon truth is shown in the proposal that this national convention of teachers pass a resolution in favor of abolishing the study of the German language and literature http://www.archive.org/details/addressesproceed55natiuoft. books.google has something similar, allegedly by Edward Maguire from 1884, but it is obviously later than 1918: every honest person knows that truth is the first casualty in every war. Pay a visit to a public library and look through the newspaper files from 1914-18. --Vsop.de (talk) 09:08, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Would it be clearer to add references at bottom rather then have the source description and link repeated for each quote ??
