Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life is a 2009 Japanese animated adventure film. The film was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama from a screenplay by Hideki Sonoda. It is the twelfth animated installment in the Pokémon film series, and was released in Japan on July 18, 2009.

Brock: I can't believe we're under the ruins.
[Ash, Dawn, Brock, Sheena and Kevin enter the basement of the Michina Ruins and watch a device]
Ash: What's that?
Pikachu: Pika?
Piplup: Lup?
Sheena: The Time-Space Axis.
Dawn: Time-Space Axis?
Kevin: Yes, that's right. It indicates the condition of every minute change in the time-space continuum.
Brock: Amazing!
Sheena: We use it to investigate those places where time and space have been disrupted.
Brock: Time and space disruptions?
Kevin: That's correct. We watched the strange mutations at Alamos Town.
Ash: Huh?
Sheena: And when that hole in time and space opened near the glacier, we were there, too.
Ash, Dawn and Brock: Hmmm...
Pikachu: Pika?
Sheena: [shows the Time-Space Axis] Here is our world, which is in turn supported by this, Giratina's reverse world. Here we have the dimension of Dialga. Here, Palkia's dimension. On top of that, Arceus' dimension.
Brock: What's Arceus' dimension?
Dawn: I've never heard of it.
Ash: Is it a Pokémon?
Sheena: Right. The Legendary Pokémon said to have created its entire world.
Brock: Entire world?
Dawn: By a Pokémon.
Kevin: It's also said to have created these worlds, too.
[The Team Rocket arrives behind the basement door]
Jessie: A Pokémon that creates entire worlds, wow!
James: Well, isn't that special?
Meowth: I wouldn't wanna meet it in a dark alley!
Sheena: There is an omen that predicts Arceus will soon awaken from its long slumber.
Ash: Long slumber?
Sheena: Massive whirlpools of energy are beginning to form around Arceus as it begins to awaken. These whirlpools are distorting space and brought Dialga and Palkia's dimensions, which were designed to remain eternally separated, into contact with each other.
Kevin: So Dialga and Palkia, who shouldn't ever have met, collided with one another in Alamos Town.
Brock: While both of them thought the other had tried to threaten its territory!
Sheena: Exactly.
Kevin: Their battle also affected the reverse world, which brought Giratina into the conflict as well.
Dawn: But, Sheena, you already resolved the conflict between Dialga and Palkia, didn't you?
Sheena: Yes.
Brock: Wait a minute. Why didn't Giratina understand you?
Kevin: When a Pokémon is overcome with rage, she can't connect... with its heart.
Ash: [realizes] Rage.
Kevin: You see, we've been using the altar to pinpoint the moment when Arceus will appear.
Ash: Why will it do that?
Sheena: It holds a grudge against humanity. Arceus remains intent on bringing us all to justice.
Ash: Huh.
Pikachu: Pika!
Dawn: Justice?
Sheena: Yes, justice. It's possible that Arceus will destroy us entirely.
Ash: A Pokémon destroying all people?
Dawn: No way, it can't be!
Sheena: Have a look at this. [Water screen begins] It's a legend of this place.
Dawn: Look at that!
Ash: It's Arceus!
Sheena: When it appeared that fragments from the stars would destroy much of the Pokémon... Arceus sacrificed itself in order to fend off the danger.
Brock: So it stopped meteors?
Ash: Awesome, what an incredible Pokémon!
Kevin: Arceus had been carrying sixteen life plates around with it that could be used to counter all possible attacks. But it lost the life plates in a collision with meteors, making its death a near certainty.
Sheena: Then Arceus was saved by a man named Damos who returned the life plates to their rightful owner. Back then, Michina was little more than a wasteland spreading out over the land... but when Arceus saw this, it was overcome with pity, so it removed the powers of Water, Grass, Ground and Electricity from the life plates and on top of that, Dragon. It then combined them into one, making the Jewel of Life.
Ash: Whoa, the Jewel of Life?
Sheena: Arceus trusted Damos and bestowed upon him the Jewel of Life, even though this meant putting its own life in grave danger. Arceus' magnificent strength flowed out of the Jewel of Life, turning that wasteland that was Michina into a fertile paradise.
Dawn: Awesome!
Piplup: Piplup!
Sheena: And then, came the day when Damos was to return the Jewel, the day when the Moon covered the Sun.
Brock: A solar eclipse?
Sheena: Yes. However, Damos broke his promise and instead of returning the Jewel of Life, he attacked Arceus.
Ash: Ah, but why?
Sheena: Well, Damos believed that if he were to return the Jewel, this area would go back to being an uncultivated wasteland.
Kevin: Feeling profoundly betrayed, Arceus fell into a rage and destroyed the shrine. And then, in order to heal itself from its injuries, Arceus began a long sleep.
[Water screen ends]
Ash: I can see why Arceus was upset.
Dawn: And Arceus went as far as to give up a part of itself to try and help Damos.
Brock: So in the end it was Damos that acted so terribly.
Sheena: Damos is... my ancestor.
Ash, Dawn and Brock: What?!
Sheena: And this... is the Jewel of Life. [shows the Jewel of Life]
Ash, Dawn and Brock: Ah!
[The Team Rocket is surprised]
Jessie: The mother lode! That's it!
Meowth: That Jewel's what I'm talking about!
James: A Jewel of a Jewel!
Jessie: First things first, we need that!
Meowth: And what about Arceus?
Jessie: Duh, we need that, too!
James: The thrill of double prizes!
Jessie, James and Meowth: [hum and sing] Catching legends means one thing, we'll be legends too!
Wobbuffet: [appears] Wob--!
Jessie, James and Meowth: Huh?
Sheena: [reads the writing on the wall] "Return thus to Arceus, the Jewel of life. Placate its rage lest destruction visit this land". [to Ash, Dawn and Brock] See, it is written.
Kevin: It's a message to us from our ancestors.
Dawn: So then that means they realized their mistake.
Sheena: Yes. We must return the Jewel of life to Arceus so that we may calm its wrath.
Tapp: In here.
Brock: Huh?
Ash: Hey, tell us where we are anyway!
Tapp: What do we have here? You see, this is the underground prison and one of Master Marcus' magical creatures just used Hypnosis on all of you.
Ash: Magical?
Dawn: He means Pokémon!
Brock: I see, that was Bronzong!
Ash: Whoa. Where's Pikachu?
Dawn: And what happened to Piplup?
Brock: And Sheena?
Tapp: They're safe. Sheena is speaking with Master Marcus right now.
Ash: Marcus?
Dawn: Yeah, remember?
Ash: I wonder who Marcus is.
Damos: A backstabber.
All: Huh?
Damos: It's true, you see. Marcus was an underling of mine, but he tricked me and threw me in jail.
Dawn: You must be--
Ash: Damos!
Damos: Wait, you're saying you know me?
Dawn: Yes, of course.
Damos: But you're not from here.
Ash: I wanna know why you won't return the Jewel of Life to Arceus!
Dawn: And why are you setting a trap for Arceus, too?
Damos: I am doing nothing of the sort! I have every intention of returning the Jewel of Life to Arceus!
Ash: You're a liar!
Damos: It's the truth! That's why Marcus put me in jail! To keep me from doing that very thing.
All: Huh?
Tapp: May I say something? That man is definitely speaking the truth. I absolutely know for a fact that Damos was attempting to return the Jewel of Life back to Arceus. What I'm completely uncertain about is whether or not that's the correct action for Damos to take.
Ash: So you're telling the truth?
Brock: Hey, the Hypnosis!
Dawn: Right, Bronzong used it!
Brock: So Marcus must have used Hypnosis on Damos and manipulated him as well!
Ash: Of course!
Damos: Hold on. What in the world are you talking about?
Ash: We came here from the future, you see?
Damos: The future?
Ash: Take a look at this.
Monferno: Monferno!
Damos: Magical creature!
Ash: In the future, this is called a Pokéball. Return! Of course, you don't have these yet.
Dawn: And back where you come from, what you call magical creatures, we call Pokémon!
Damos: Pokémon?
Marcus: I understand it now. You said you all came here from the future and you were telling the truth.
Sheena: Damos has no intention of returning the Jewel of Life back to Arceus. I'm certain of that.
Marcus: I see.
Sheena: But then, if Arceus doesn't get the Jewel of Life back, terrible things will start to happen.
Marcus: What kind of things?
Sheena: Concerning you and Damos.
[explosion]
Marcus: What are you saying?
Sheena: You have to trust me, please!
[Marcus sighs]
Marcus: From what you know, would you mind telling me what sort of attacks Damos might have used on Arceus?
Sheena: He used several Electric attacks and then dropped a boulder on Arceus.
Marcus: What about silver water? I guess he didn't use it. Understood, I believe you. I shall stop Damos at once. We must return the Jewel of Life to Arceus. This is the Jewel of Life. You shall return it to Arceus. Let's go. You shall change history.
Sheena: Thank you, sir.
Arceus: Damos, why did you BETRAY ME?! [His eyes glow completely red with rage, hatred, pain and despair] WHY?!?!?!
Arceus: Damos.
Damos: The Jewel of Life... Please, take it.
Arceus: Who are you?
Ash: I'm Ash, and this is my partner, Pikachu.
Pikachu: Pikachu!
[The underground area begins to collapse while silver water pours into it]
Arceus: [saves Ash and Pikachu using a Psychic move] Ash and Pikachu. Are you the ones who saved my life?
Ash: It wasn't just us.
[Dawn, Piplup, Brock, Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile arrive]
Brock: Ash!
Dawn: You're alive.
Piplup: Lup!
Ash: Everybody here did it.
Pikachu: Pika, Pika!
Damos: Arceus, please, forgive me.
Arceus: I already saw it in your heart. It's all right.
Arceus: I have used up all of my strength. So for now I must rest. Farewell, Damos, Ash, Pikachu. [looks at the rest of the Pokémon and everyone else] And you. All of my beloved.
[Arceus flies into the sky. Everyone watches happily as Arceus disappears in a flash of color. Sheena and the others start to glow]
Sheena: Dialga's calling.
Damos: Dialga?
Sheena: Time to return to the future.
Damos: But I wanted to speak more.
Ash: Me too.
Dawn: Yeah, me too.
Brock: Same here.
Damos: But it's not to be, future children.
[Sheena, Ash, Dawn, and Brock vanish back into the future]
Ash: Arceus!
Brock: It's still angry!
Dawn: But how?
[Arceus begins to unleash his final attack]
Ash: NO, ARCEUS, NO!
[Arceus hears Ash and looks down]
Arceus: Who... are you?
[Arceus halts his attack. His mind flashes back to when Ash and co. saved his life]
Ash: [in the flashback] I'm Ash. And this is my partner, Pikachu.
Pikachu: [in the flashback] Pikachu!
[flashback ends]
Arceus: Ash…
[Arceus stops his attack completely. He also restores the temple and revives its guardians]
[Last lines]
Kevin: Sheena, look at this.
[Ash, Dawn, Brock and Sheena look at a new monument]
Ash: Is that...?
Dawn: It's us.
Brock: Damos must have left this knowing we would see it.
Sheena: There's something written here. [reads] "To all of my beautiful future children who taught me how to believe, I offer all of you now my sincerest hopes and wishes that the future world will become more and more beautiful...
Damos: and that is exactly the kind of world you find yourselves in".
Sheena: [sheds tears] Ah. Thank you, Damos. [cries]
Arceus: Ash.
All: Huh?
Arceus: This world of yours is truly a magnificent place.
Ash: It is!
Pikachu: Pika!
Dawn and Brock: Hmm.
Arceus: [flies] And now, with great joy, I have finally come to understand that I am truly a part of it.
Ash: See ya, Arceus!
Pikachu: Pikachu!
Ash: Bye, Arceus!
Brock: Bye!
Dawn: Bye!
Ash: And thank you for everything!
[Arceus enters the portal returning to its dimension]
