The Narrator
edit- All this has happened before, and it will all happen again. But this time, it happened in London. It happened on a quiet street in Bloomsbury. That corner house over there is the home of the Darling family. And Peter Pan chose this particular house, because there were people here who believed in him. There was Mrs. Darling. Mrs. Darling believed that Peter Pan was the spirit of youth. But Mr. Darling...Well, Mr. Darling was a practical man. The boys, however, John and Michael, believed Peter Pan was a real person, and made him the hero of all their nursery games. Wendy, the eldest, not only believed. She was the supreme authority on Peter Pan and all his marvelous adventures. Nana, the nursemaid, being a dog, kept her opinions to herself, and viewed the whole affair with a certain tolerance.
Dialogue
edit- Mary Darling: But, George, do you think the children will be safe without Nana?
- George Darling: Safe? Of course they'll be safe. Why not?
- Mary Darling: Well, Wendy said something about a shadow, and I...
- George Darling: Shadow? Whose shadow?
- Mary Darling: Peter Pan's.
- George Darling: Oh, Peter Pan...Peter Pan?! You don't say! [high, mocking voice] Goodness gracious! Whatever shall we do?!
- Mary Darling: But, George...
- George Darling: [normal voice] Sound the alarm!
- Mary Darling: Really, I...
- George Darling: Call Scotland Yard!
- Wendy: I'm so glad you came back tonight. I might never have seen you.
- Peter Pan: Why?
- Wendy: Because I have to grow up tomorrow.
- Peter Pan: Grow up?!
- Wendy: Tonight's my last night in the nursery.
- Peter Pan: But that means no more stories!
- Wendy: Mm-hmm.
- Peter Pan: No! I won't have it! Come on!
- Mr. Smee: Oh, dear, dear, dear, Captain Hook. Shootin' a man in the middle of his cadenza? That ain't good form, you know.
- Captain Hook: [calmly] "Good form," Mr. Smee? [flips the table over] BLAST GOOD FORM! [waves his hook in front of Smee] Did Pan show good form when he did this to me?!
- Mr. Smee: Why, Captain, cutting your hand off was only a childish prank, you might say.
- Captain Hook: Aye! But throwing it to that crocodile! That cursed beast liked the taste of me so well he's followed me ever since, licking his chops for the rest of me.
- The twins: Who ya shovin?!
- Cubby: YOU THAT'S WHO!
- The twins: I'll show you!
- [All the other boys fight. Tinker bell stops them and points]
- Slightly: Huh? Orders from Pan? Hold up, fam!
- [Cubby and the others stop as Cubby is about to smash the twins heads together]
- Nibs: what's the orders Tink?
- [Tinkerbell flaps her arms like a bird]
- Cubby: A terrible what?!
- Slightly: Wendybird!
- Cubby: Wendybird?
- [Tinkerbell fly towards the lost boys, Cubby scratches his head]
- Slightly: Flying this way?
- Cubby: Pan's orders are... [wears a shock expressions and swings his head to the right to Tinkerbell] " What?! [Tinkerbell swings her leg like kicking a football; pounds his fist with his palm hand out] Smash him?!
- Slightly: [swinging his leg] Kick him?!
- The twins: [stomping] stomp him?!
- [Tinkerbell pretends she's shooting a gun]
- Slightly: Oh, you need to shoot it down!
- The twins: Yeah!
- [Tinkerbell leads where the "wendybird" is. The lost boys grab their weapons]
- Nibs: come on!
- The twins: let's go!
- Cubby: Pan's orders say it's that way! [looks at us them races after the lost boys]
- Slightly: we're gonna get em!
- The Indian Chief: [comes forward] How!
- The Lost Boys: [Cubby] Uh, how! [Slightly] How, chief!
- The Indian Chief: For many moons red man fight paleface Lost Boys.
- The Lost Boys: Ugh?
- The Indian Chief: Sometime you win, sometime we win.
- Cubby: Okay, Chief. Uh, you win this time. Now turn us loose.
- John Darling: Turn us loose? You mean this is only a game?
- Slightly: Sure. When we win, we turn them loose.
- Twin 1: And when they win, they turn us loose.
- Twin 2: They turn us loose.
- The Indian Chief: This time no turnum loose.
- The Lost Boys: Huh?
- Slightly: [chuckling] The chief's a great spoofer.
- The Indian Chief: Me no spoofum! Where you hide Princess Tiger Lily?!
- Cubby: Uh, Tiger Lily?
- Slightly: We ain't got your ol' princess!
- John Darling: I've certainly never seen her.
- The Lost Boys: [agreeing] [Cubby] Me neither. [the twins] Honestly don't.
- The Indian Chief: Heap big lie. If Tiger Lily not back by sunset, burnum at stake!
- Mr. Smee: Well, at last, Captain Hook's comin' to his senses.
- Captain Hook: [surprised] Odd's fish!
- Mr. Smee: [to Tiger Lily] I told him all along you Indians wouldn't betray Peter Pan.
- Captain Hook: [kindly] And just what do you think you are doing, Mr. Smee?
- Mr. Smee: Just what you told me, Captain: carrying out your orders.
- Captain Hook: [stops the rowboat from moving by placing his foot on it] My orders?
- Mr. Smee: Why, yes, Captain. Didn't you just say to go...
- Hook: [shoves the boat back into Skull Rock] Put her back, you blithering idiot! [to himself] My orders. Of all the bumbling...
- Peter Pan: [impersonates Hook] Mr. Smee! [Hook hears the voice, and realizes who it was] Just exactly what do you think you are doing?
- Mr. Smee: Putting her back like you said, Captain.
- Peter Pan: I said nothing of the sort!
- Mr. Smee: [stammers] But captain...!
- Peter Pan: [whilst the real Hook creeps up to him unbeknownst] For the last time, Mr. Smee, take the princess back to her people! UNDERSTAND?!?! [echoes]
- Mr. Smee: Aye-aye, sir.
- Peter Pan: Oh, and one more thing: When you return to the ship, tell the whole crew to help themselves to me best rum.
- [Hook prepares to stab Peter with his hook]
- Wendy: [gasps in horror] Peter!
- Hook: [stabs Peter's hat as Peter dodges] Here's your "spirit", Smee! [flabbergasted as he caught Peter's hat]
- Peter Pan: Well, well! A codfish on a hook!
- Captain Hook: I'll get you for this, Pan, if it's the last thing I do!
- [Wendy Darling has walked the plank, and Peter Pan saves her, unbeknownst to Hook and his pirates]
- Mr. Starkey: No splash, Captain.
- Captain Hook: So, you want a splash, Mr. Starkey? I'll give you a splash! [throws Starkey overboard] Who's next?!
- Peter Pan: You're next, Hook! This time you've gone too far!
- Captain Hook: Fly! Fly! Fly! You coward!
- Peter Pan: Coward?! Me?
- Captain Hook: Ha-ha-ha! You wouldn't dare fight old Hook man-to-man. You'd fly away like a cowardly sparrow!
- Peter Pan: Nobody calls Pan a coward and lives! I'll fight you man-to-man, with one hand behind my back.
- Captain Hook: You mean you won't fly?
- Wendy Darling: No, don't, Peter! It's a trick!
- Peter Pan: I give my word, Hook.
- Captain Hook: Good! Then let's have at it!
- Captain Hook: You wouldn't do old Hook in now, would you, lad? I'll go away forever. [cries] I'll do anything you say!
- Peter Pan: Well, all right. If ya... Say you're a codfish.
- Captain Hook: [gulp] I'm a codfish.
- Peter Pan: Louder!
- Captain Hook: (wailing) I'M A CODFISH!
- Wendy Darling and the boys: HOORAY! [all sing] Hook is a codfish! A codfish! A codfish! Hook is a codfish! A codfish! A codfish!
- [Tick-Tock Croc is waiting below happily splashing his arms rhythmically in the water]
- Peter Pan: All right, Hook. You're free to go and never return. [throws Hook's sword away and crows triumphantly]
- [Hook is about to slash Peter with his hook]
- Wendy: [alarmed] Peter!
- [But Peter quickly dodges as he flies again, and Hook falls into the water where Tick-Tock Croc is waiting for him]

About Peter Pan (1953 film)
edit- I had a particularly bad time getting started on Captain Hook. It was one of the low points of my life. These are the first scenes of him where he's walking, pacing the deck, saying, 'That Peter Pan! If I get my hook on him!,' or whatever. He was neither menacing nor foppish. This was because of the confusion in the minds of the director and story people. In story, Ed Penner had always seen Hook as a very foppish, not strong, dandy-type of guy, who loved all the finery. Gerry Geronimi, who was the director, saw him as an Ernest Torrence, a mean, heavy sort of character who used his hook menacingly.
- Well, Walt could see something in both approaches, and I think he delighted in thinking, 'I wonder what the hell Thomas is going to do when he gets this.' If Walt would ever say, 'Aw, I don't know,' fifty people would jump up thinking, 'Here's my chance to impress Walt.' They'd say, 'I think his head's too big. I think his feet are too small. I think he's too this. I think he's too that,' hoping Walt would say, 'Yeah, I think you're right.' This time Walt came to my aid, fortunately. He said, 'Well, that last scene has something I like. I think you're beginning to get him. I think we better wait and let Frank go on a little further.'
