Night Trap (VG) (1992)

1992 video game

Night Trap is a video game that was released on October 15, 1992 for the Sega CD system. It was filmed over a 3-week period during the Summer of 1987, and was originally planned for a release on an unreleased video game console called the Control-Vision. The gameplay was developed from an earlier prototype game called "Scene of the Crime".

Lieutenant Simms (After watching the action unfold on a TV screen through the security cameras): Alright, Mike, I think we've seen enough of that.
Collins: Wow! That's gotta be the strangest thing I've ever seen!
Mike: I hear that.
Swanson: Just got this in last night.
Collins: Alright, listen up.
Lt. Simms (pointing to the map): The students that have been coming up to work in this resort, on this side of the lake, have been disappearing right and left.
Swanson: The local authorities didn't have a clue, until our surveillance teams tapped in to the winery house right there, (points to a specific spot) and taped everything you just saw.
Collins: What about the cameras and the traps?
Lt. Simms (shrugging): Probably security.
Collins: What?!
Swanson: We suspect they're using the winery house as a cover, and they're getting anyone that stumbles onto their scheme... whatever that is.
Lt. Simms (After pulling down a white projection curtain with a projector showing a picture of a girl with long brown hair.): This is Kelly.
Collins (scoffs): A kid?!
Jason: C'mon, isn't she really young?
Swanson: She's young. She's one of our best.
Lt. Simms: She'll also be working inside. And remember, no one goes in until we get the signal from her (pulls the projection screen back up and the lights turn back on).
Jason: I wanna know more about these traps.
Collins: Yeah.
Lt. Simms: There's one thing we've got going for us.
Jason: Who's that?
Lt. Simms (pointing to a map of the first floor): One of our guys put an override on the camera cable unit here, in the back hallway.
Jason: Which means...?
Lt. Simms: Which means... we have complete control of the cameras and the traps.
Collins: But who operates that?
Lt. Simms: (pointing to the camera, referring to the player[s]) They do.
Collins: And who's that?
Lt. Simms: I'm not exactly certain... Special operators from Control... but we gotta work together on this one. Any questions?
Collins (as he picks up an AK-47): Let's rock 'n' roll!
(the S.C.A.T. members proceed to walk upstairs)
Lt. Simms: (to Swanson) Be careful out there, huh. (turns to the player[s]) And you, you keep your eyes open. We're all depending on you, especially Kelly. (looks at his watch) She should be there... now. I'll switch you over, and good luck. (turns on the team's Control-Vision machine)
Commander Simms: I'm Commander Simms, of the Sega Control Attack Team. SCAT Mission 230. Five teenage girls have disappeared, after spending the night at the old Lakeshore Winery House of Mr. & Mrs. Victor Martin, and their children, Jeff, and Sarah. Right now, another five girls are headed towards the Martins', to spend the night. Your mission: protect those girls from whatever happened to the last ones. Now listen up: last night, one of our agents got into the house and found some kind of weird security system. Hidden cameras in almost every room and a series of traps. Our agents spliced an override into the security system, allowing you to have control of the cameras and the traps with this remote unit. Use the traps to capture anyone or anything that endangers the lives of those girls. But make sure you don't trap someone you should be protecting. Uh, one slight problem: the traps are protected with an access code. They won't work unless you enter the right code. Right now, the code is set at blue, and you have control of the traps, but anyone inside the house can change that code at any time, so, pay close attention to what they're saying. Our override cable is here in Hallway #1, if anyone disconnects it, you lose control......for good. This is my attack squad, and this is Kelly, one of my best undercover agents. She'll be arriving with the rest of the girls. I'm putting her life, and the lives of those other girls in your hands, so, don't even think of messing up. If you don't have the brains or the guts for this assignment, give the controls to someone who does. The girls should be pulling into the driveway. You're wasting time! Get over there now! Looks like you're not up to this mission. Breaking contact.

Tony: That girl looks exactly like Madeline.

When Ashley Dies

Kelly: Hey, man, this place is crawling with monsters!

Commander Simms: I should inform you, now, Mr. Martin. Your house has been under surveillance for some time.
Victor Martin: Really?
Swanson: A number of kids have been disappearing in this area, and most of them have been traced back to this house.
Commander Simms: Help me understand that, would you please Mr. Martin?
Victor Martin: Well, this is all very intriguing, I really don't know where to start.
SCAT Attack Squad Member #1: Start by explaining the cameras and the traps.
Victor Martin: Well, I guess you'd call that charity.
SCAT Attack Squad Member #1: Charity?
Victor Martin: Well, in all finesse, all the credit goes to Sheila, my wife. It was actually her idea.
Sheila Martin: Oh, darling, it was your brilliant craftsmanship that made all of this possible.
Victor Martin: Thank you.
Commander Simms: Get to the point.

Victor Martin: A vampire victim was been half-bled, and left there to die.
Sheila Martin: Poor creatures have just enough blood to survive. But not enough to become vampires.
Kelly: Poor creatures? Those things are monsters, see, see, these people are crazy.
Victor Martin: It's a wicked curse! Wondering about looking for blood, hoping one day to become a vampire.
Kelly: Ew!
SCAT Attack Squad Member #1: Vampires, you've gotta be jiving me! Let's cuff these freaks and drag 'em downtown!
Commander Simms: Hold it. I don't think you understand Mr. Martin, but you're in serious trouble.

Victor Martin: No, lieutenant, I'm afraid it was you who doesn't understand.
Kelly: Hey, Cindy, are you all right?
Cindy: Yeah, I feel great.

  • The "Sega" Control Attack Team name was invented specifically for the Sega CD version. All versions, including this version, refer to the team in a later scene as the "Special" Control Attack Team.
  • Commander Simms was originally known as Lieutenant Simms in the Control-Vision version. The "Commander" rank was given to him only in the four console versions released in the 1990s.
  • While similar, the intro to the versions released for the Sega CD 32X, 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, and MS-DOS differs slightly from the standard Sega CD version.
