Ethan Hunt

  • If anything happens to either of them, there's no place on Earth where you or your God will be safe from me. There's no place where I won't go to kill you. That is written.

Gabriel

edit
  • You've no idea the power I represent. Thousands of quadrillions of computations per millisecond, subtly manipulating the minds of billions while parsing every possible cause and effect, every scenario -- however implausible -- into a very real map of a most probable "next". And with only a few changes to the present, the future is all but assured.
  • His fate is written. Shall we write yours, too?
  • I was hoping it'd be you.

Kitteridge

edit
  • Ethan, the next World War isn't gonna be a cold one, it's gonna be a shooting one. It's gonna be a ballistic war over a rapidly shrinking ecosystem. It's gonna be a war for the last of our dwindling energy, drinkable water, breathable air. Whoever controls the Entity controls the truth. The concepts of right and wrong can be clearly defined for everyone, for centuries to come.
  • We cannot escape the past. Some of us are doomed to repeat it. Grace may believe you've saved her from her fate, but you and I both know you've merely bought her time. But that's the pattern, isn't it? The cross you've been left to bear. The closer someone gets to you, the harder it is to keep them alive.
  • A new day brings a new burden. The key is only the beginning. Wherever it leads, whatever it takes to get there, you'll have to do it on your own. Should you fail in your mission, the Entity wins, Gabriel wins, and the world will pay the ultimate price. Should any members of your team be caught or killed, their sacrifice will have been in vain. So hurry; there isn't much time. The world doesn't know it, but they're counting on you. Good luck, Ethan...

Others

edit
  • Denlinger: So let me get this straight: When there's a mission none of you can handle, you just "leave word" for a nameless man, and hope he gets the job done. Is that it?
  • Briggs: [speaking about Ethan] He is not to be underestimated. A master of infiltration, deception, sabotage, and psych warfare. For all intents and purposes, ladies and gentlemen... a mind-reading, shapeshifting incarnation of chaos. For your safety and the safety of those around him, do not consider him secure unless you have driven a wooden stake through his open heart. This is not a drill.
  • Alanna Mistopolis: As most of you know, I am merely a broker. I connect a buyer and a seller, sometimes for money, sometimes for information, but mostly for friendship. I just want everyone to get along. With me, especially. But the world is changing. Truth is vanishing. War is coming. And the key to world domination is, of all things, a key.

Dialogue

Delinger: Who the hell is this guy?
Kittridge: That's classified.
Delinger: I'm the goddamn Director of National Intelligence. What, exactly, is it I'm not supposed to know about?
Kittridge: The IMF.
NSA Head: Mister Kittridge!
Delinger: The World Bank?
Kittridge: No, that's the International Monetary Fund.
NRO Head: Mr. Kittridge--
Kittridge: No, I mean the other IMF. Ours.
Denlinger: What does it stand for?
Kittridge: Impossible Mission Force.
Denlinger: ...You're not serious.
DIA Head: I'm afraid he is.
Denlinger: And what do they do, exactly?
JSOC Head: It's just as the name implies -- whatever the rest of us can't.

Kitteridge: I understand, you're upset...
Ethan: I'm not upset, Kitteridge. You wanted me to listen. This is me listening.

Kitteridge: Your days of fighting for the so-called "greater good" are over. You need to pick a side.
Ethan: I'm on the same side I've always been on. Stay out of my way.

Benji Dunn: A self-aware, self-learning, truth-eating digital parasite... infesting all of cyberspace. Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later!
Luther Stickell: And the two halves of this key just might provide the means of controlling this... "Entity".
Benji: Meaning every government on the planet would kill us just to get that key.
Luther: Including our own.
Ethan: Exactly.
Benji: Putting us on an unsanctioned mission which has gone rogue before it even started.
Luther: Meaning this very conversation is technically an act of treason.
Benji: Or, as we like to call it... "Monday".

Alanna: Gabriel represents another interested party. In fact, this party was arranged by that interested party.
Gabriel: You could even say that this party is that interested party.

Briggs: He always goes rogue. Him and his merry pack of prankster circus freaks? That's all they do!
Degas: And what if they always had a good reason?
Briggs: What would you do with that key if you had it? A key with a power to bring the world to its knees...
Degas: I'd... hand it over to my superiors.
Briggs: Think of all you could do with that power. You wouldn't hesitate? Not for a second?
Degas: No.
Briggs: Why not?
Degas: Because that's just too much power for one man to have.
Briggs: Exactly.
Degas: That's too much power for anybody to have. And maybe that's what Hunt is thinking.
Briggs: You know, I'm beginning to wonder whose side you're on, Degas.
Degas: When it comes to the end of the world, I... Everybody, I guess.
