Lake of fire (New Testament)
A place of punishment for evildoers in Christianity and ancient Egyptian religions; less literally, the infinite misery which must befall those who come short in loyalty to truth and duty
The lake of fire (Greek: λίμνη τοῦ πυρός, limne tou pyros) is a concept that occurs in the New Testament, where it denotes a place of eternal after-death punishment of the wicked. The phrase is used in five verses of the Book of Revelation. The concept is analogous to the concepts of Gehinnom and Hades, or the more common concept of Hell.
