Written in 1778 for a production by the "Gentlemen of Portsmouth" (New Hampshire Gazette, March 31, 1778) probably in the Assembly Rooms or Stavers Tavern in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Bow Street Theatre didn't open until 1791.
