I enjoy getting hit sometimes. It makes me feel like a real football player instead of a quarterback.

  • All of my teammates have supported me and welcomed me with open arms, a kid from Ohio coming down to the Bayou, and welcoming me as brothers. It's been so awesome.
  • I want to thank the Heisman people for a great weekend. Thank you for allowing me to be here as well as my family.
  • I'm just so thankful for LSU and Ohio State. Playing at two of the best programs in the country. Great coaches both places.
  • I tried to leave a legacy of hard work and preparation, and loyalty, and dedication everywhere I go. And, I'm surrounded by such great people that make that so easy. Great strength coaches. Coach [Mickey Marotti] is in the audience, [he's] my strength coach from Ohio State, and Coach [Tommy Moffitt] is watching from home. And, they've made me a great person and a great player and so much better because of them.
  • Coming from southeast Ohio it's a very impoverished area and the poverty rate is almost two times the national average. There's so many people there that don't have a lot and I'm up here for all those kids in Athens and Athens County that go home to not a lot of food on the table, hungry after school. You guys can be up here, too.
  • I'd like to thank Louisiana, the entire state. Like I said earlier, [I'm] just a kid from Ohio coming down and chasing a dream. And the entire state has welcomed me and my family with open arms and invited us in to be native Louisianans. I've learned to love crawfish and gumbo. During crawfish season, Coach O made sure we have pounds and pounds and pounds of crawfish during our year.
  • So thank you to everyone, everyone here. There's so many people that I should thank and unfortunately, I just don't have the time, but those people know what they mean to me and my family. So when I lift this trophy again it's for LSU, Ohio State, southeast Ohio and all of Louisiana. Thank you.

The black community needs our help. They have been unheard for far too long. Open your ears, listen, and speak. This isn't politics. This is human rights.
  • I'm not into the whole politics thing. I'm passionate about what I believe in. To me, that's racial inequality. Socioeconomic inequality. To me, that's not politics, it's human rights. It's giving the same opportunities to people regardless of their skin color or social status. Whether it's racial or socioeconomic or just people out there not given the same opportunities, I think being in our position it's our responsibility to help those kinds of people.
  • Yeah. You know, it was good on the sideline. We were struggling a little bit, so everyone was a little frustrated, but they were positive conversations and there was never any negativity.

ACL and MCL injury and recovery

There was no feeling sorry for myself. It was, 'Let's figure out how fast I can get the surgery so I can start my rehab.' And then get it going.

  • There was no feeling sorry for myself. It was, 'Let's figure out how fast I can get the surgery so I can start my rehab.' And then get it going.
  • With my knee, it felt the same. But I tweak my throwing motion every offseason and tweak my base. It was actually kind of beneficial for me, because I really started from the beginning and was able to refine some things that needed refining.
  • Just getting my hips stronger through my rehab has gotten a ton more velocity on my ball. I've been very happy with that.
  • Two-and-a-half years ago, I didn't know if I was going to be a starting quarterback anywhere in college. And now, sitting where I'm at, I've gone through a lot of adversity that's helped put me in the position I'm in. This is just another bump in the road that I have to overcome. And I'm confident that I can, and I'm confident I've done it the right way so far.

We knew that they were gonna be jacked up for us to come in, and expecting to beat our ass. But we were ready for it.
  • This is the NFL. This isn't peewee, this isn't high school where you go out and run up the score. You play until the final whistle. I don't care what the score is. We've been in spots where teams go out and do that to us. They did it to us last year. No sympathy from me.
  • I didn't think it was a necessary comment. I wouldn't say I was offended by it. I mean, I'm in year two. Who knows what's going to happen down the road? But I didn't think it was a necessary comment

Everyone knows that meme. F-it Ja'Marr's down there somewhere.
  • You don't really want to talk [trash] to me … [The Ravens] talk. I love that. [The score] was a lot to a little [in both of the Bengals' wins over the Ravens last season]. I threw for 520-something in the second one and I threw for 400-something in the first one. … Yeah, I love playing the Ravens. They like to talk. I don't start the talking. But if somebody pokes me, I can talk a little bit.
  • We were gonna smoke all the cigars in the locker room. And we started smoking them and the cops come in because I guess you're not allowed to smoke inside or whatever. And they start trying to arrest people in the locker room. Yeah. After we won the national title. We're like, 'What's going -? C'mon.' This was in Louisiana. We played in New Orleans for the national title. They were trying to (arrest us). And then I think they finally realized like what are we doing?

  • That's our standard now. We're going to celebrate it every single time we do it. We're going to smoke our cigars, wear our T-shirts and hats. We expect that every year.

Quotes about Burrow

edit
  • As recently as this summer, Joe Burrow was an NFL draft afterthought. Following a forgettable junior season in 2018, the LSU quarterback was considered to be at best a fifth-round pick. One prominent scouting service ranked eight senior QBs above Burrow in the 2020 class—and that didn't include underclassmen like Georgia's Jake Fromm or Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa, who Burrow may face off against on Saturday. As a physically limited QB with average production as a starter, there was little expectation that Burrow would turn into anything more than a late-round project and potential backup. Well, let's just say a lot has changed in three months.

Take it easy on that cigar, boy.
  • He's got natural pocket feel. He feels it. It seems like he never takes his eyes off down the field. He extends the play really, really well. He's a lot faster than you might assume when you see him running away from all those SEC guys. He's got incredible upfield accuracy. The ball hardly ever hits the ground in a game, which is rare. He just naturally puts the ball in places where those guys can make plays.

Joe's just got that swagger about him.
